Re: WC 6505 - SMB Login Error - Error 031-522

Hello, and many thanks for your rapid replay!

The account "Metalltryckning" has a password when I log in into Windows-10, it consists of four numbers, is that what you mean? Can that password automatically has been put in the "password-line" with four dots in the CenterWare, in my screen shot? You wrote in your first answer to me "The password is the password for the user obtained in screenshot 1". Where do I see the password in your exampel screenshot 1? (Of my two users, "Fabriken" is the administrator, and "Metalltryckning" is a user.)

Apart form this I presume my settings in my screen shot seem ok, as you did not comment on it?

As the Xerox manual doesn´t tell anything about the "password line" in the settings for "scan to folder" in CenterWare, The password has confused me from the beginning. Hopefully I will get it to work now with your help.

Regards,

/Mikael

Re: WC 6505 - SMB Login Error - Error 031-522

Are you certain the account has a 4 digit password? That seems too short, and implies it is a PIN not a password.

If you can't get it to work, you may need to switch to FTP

Re: WC 6505 - SMB Login Error - Error 031-522

How and where do I create this password you mean, if it not is the pin/password I use to login to the user account when I start Windows-10? And the other user I have created "Fabriken" that also is Administrator, has a longer password/pin (8 digits) to log in into that account i Windows-10. But still it just shows 4 dots in the "password line" in the Xerox CenterWare in the scan to folder set-up menu as I sent to you before. And these four dots have been put in by the system in the CenterWare, not by me, and has been there since the first time I opened that menu in the CenterWare. And they seem not possible to change as they always comes back if I tries to change them?

Isn´t there an instruction about this "password thing" you can send me, as it not is described in the Xerox-manual for setting up network scan?

Sorry, I'm not going into how to setup user accounts in Windows.

I absolutely can't understand why you think Xerox has anything to do with it.

You do a scan and get a login failure, it isn't exactly cryptic. If you want to prove Xerox is the problem and not the workflow, have someone do a Wireshark trace of a failed scan. Submit it to Xerox 2nd level or have your own network person look into it.

Hello,

I've got the same problem with my 6505.  The printer works for printing via network.  Trying to scan to a folder on my PC gives me the dreaded 031-522 error message.

The stupid part is I once got it to work and it worked for years.  Now I've recently reinstalled my Windows PC (Windows 10 Pro) and I cannot get this to work anymore.  It's driving me crazy.

My computer's name is ROADRUNNER

I've created a folder on my E: drive, called Scans (E:\Scans)

I've shared this folder to Everybody, and also (as per your manual on the first page of this tread) added the user "Bart", giving Bart full access to everything as well.

I can see the shared folder my network in Windows Explorer. (ROADRUNNER\Scans)

In CentreWare Internet Services, I added the "Scans" directory to the "Network Scan" section of the Address Book.

Basically now it says:

-------------------------------------------------------

No : 1

Name : Scans

Server Type : Computer (SMB)

Host Address : 192.168.1.100  (<= this is the IP address of my Windows PC)

Port number : 445

Login Name : ROADRUNNER\Bart

Login Password : <my password which I'm sure is correct> (but it only shows 4 characters?)

RE-Enter Password : <my password which I'm sure is correct> (but it only shows 4 characters?)

Name of Shared Directory : Scans

Subdirectory Path : <left blank because I don't use any subdirectories in E:\Scans>

-------------------------------------------------------

Via the shell command "netstat -an", I can see port 445 is "LISTENING"

The PC uses Bitdefender as anti-Virus, but the the standerd Windows Firewall as a Firewall.

What am I doing wrong ?

Thank you!

Ok,  update.

I just thought that I still have a Windows tablet laying around here, so I took it from the shelf and installed a second Directory Listing in CentreWare, especially for this tablet.  I set it up EXACTLY the same as my desktop (with the exception of the IP address of course).

And what do you know? IT WORKS!

So the problem has to be with my PC somewhere.  Something is preventing the 6505 from calling into my Desktop.  You don't suppose Bitdefender is responsible for this ? I don't think so because it's only an anti-virus and not a total security package, but I've known problems before with NOD32 and my 6505 (albeit of a different kind), so I would not be surprised.

Hmmmmm....

Edit : I just tried uninstalling Bitdefender, but that didn't make any difference, so it seems Bitdefender is not at fault here...

I also tried copying a file from the tablet to the shared folder on my desktop, and that worked instantly and without a problem.  So it seems the tablet can access the share of my desktop, but the 6505 can't.  Now I'm very confused...

Can you spot the difference?

Re: WC 6505 - SMB Login Error - Error 031-522

The 6505 can't do SMBv2 or SMBv3

SMBv1 is now disabled on all current Operating systems due to the Wannacry thing a while back, I'm guessing your tablet never got that update.

This would leave you with 2 choices:

1. Enable SMBv1 on the PC

2. Enable FTP and use that instead.

I would pick option 2, although I admit option 1 is much simpler, but, it has a much higher security risk than 2 does, and 2 is less likely to get reset with every Windows security update.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your reply!

I tried re-enabling SMBv1, but that didn't do much good.

I'll try the second option now, using FTP is also a good idea.  Thanks!

Edit : I got the FTP server running thanks to your tutorial.  Scanning to it now works! Thanks Joe!
