white lines outlining Crop Boxes/BLEED area

Versant 2100

FreeFlow CORE

version 4.0.3.1

After having CORE create bleed using the mirroring setup I am now getting white lines on left and top of crop box does anyone know why this is happening and how to solve. Something may have changed but CORE was problematic after a sudden power outage.

Re: white lines outlining Crop Boxes/BLEED area

As long as there's content all the way to the edge this should work as expected.

Are you seeing the lines in jobs that worked as expected beforehand?

You might also want to also use the optimize option to add bleed by scaling. I would scale by a very small amount just to make sure there's content all the way to edge of the document and then do the mirroring thing.

Re: white lines outlining Crop Boxes/BLEED area

I figured out the solution, before adding bleed, inside of Acrobat under TOOLS/PRINT PRODUCTION/SET PAGE BOXES I checked remove white margins. CORE - ADD BLEED workflow is not set up to add bleed to a two page document so I have been saving each page seperately, then bringing into CORE. These are some of the work around solutions using CORE that I provide to my customers who do not understand the concept of BLEED.

Thanks for the assist.

You should not have to save each PDF as a separate file.

Have you tried using the PDF Merge watermark type?

This should place the first page of the watermark PDF on the first page of the document, the second page of the watermark PDF on the second page of the PDF and so on to the end (with options to either start from page 1 or stop placing PDF pages if the watermark PDF has fewer pages than the job's PDF).

Re: white lines outlining Crop Boxes/BLEED area

I have looked for this format and cannot locate it, where can it be found?

Also another option I use is to crop the image smaller and then add .25 or .35 depending on the artwork

That format was added in FFCore v5.

Updates are free with maintenance so you should be able to move to this version.

A couple of things to note:

  • Always backup (whole system backup) so you can restore if for any reason you want to roll back
    • Ideally you have a backup system / license that you can use to test upgrades
  • You will need a new license file if you are moving from v4 to v5.
