WC 7845 Secure print only greyed on Disabled

[ Edited ]

I just installed a new WC7845. I am trying to enable Secure Print Only in the Administration tab of the properties. This is greyed out. This happens when using the PCL6 driver on a old x86 (W2003R2) print server, but also on a new x64 (W2008R2) server. I tried the Global print driver. This seems to work on the x86 platform, but messes up my Old citrix farm when printng to that printer. Also when I try a WC 7435 driver it's no longer greyed out, but it doesn't work when I select it. My jobs just get printed out despit the PIN I put in. Anyone??

Hi you!

I suggest you have a look at this forum post HERE.

Xerox have answered to either preconfigure the driver or to change the settings in the print queue.

Hope that helps!

Best Regards

Re: WC 7845 Secure print only greyed on Disabled

I have seen the post your referring to. That doesn't help. A user would still be able to change the job away from Secure.

On the same two print servers, I have another printer configured that is the same model. On this one I can select the "Secure Print Only" option in the Administration tab. I created a fresh (virtual) server and created both aformentioned printers. The same thing happens. On one of them the option is greyed out, and on the other one I can select the "secure Print Only" option.

Can this be a setting communicated from the printer? To check this, is there a way to set the printer back to factory defaults?

Hi again!

Is it always the same printer?

Hmm, I'm not sure a system reset would help but it might be worth a try, The driver does get some settings by the bi-directional communication option depending on what driver you're using, you can try a reset by following THIS.

Also you could try disabling bi-directional communication to see if it makes a difference?

Yup, always the same printer. I had already tried that method of software reset. That's not the kind of reset I mean. Nothing changes. All settings I put in like email server, LDAP and such remain. Turning off bi-directional didn't help. I am going to clone the other printer, on which I can enable the "secure Only" option, an import the clone in the "trouble-"printer.

Re: WC 7845 Secure print only greyed on Disabled

Cloning doesn't help either. To at least enable the secure only option I

  • entered the ip addres of the printer where the option is not greyed out, in the windows printersettings of the one where I could not select "Secure Print Only". The option is then no longer greyed out so I select it.
  • Next I turn off bi-directional and
  • re-enter the correct IP address. Now secure print stays on. One drawback is that now I can select an Output destination that doesn't exist on the printer because the working one has a large finisher the faulty one doesn't have.

I am sure it's something on the physical printer itself. Because when I leave bi-directional on and change the ip address back to what it should be, the setting secure print only reverts back to greyed out and disabled.

Anybody, anything??

One more thing. When I leave the bi-directional on and can't select the "secure Print Only" config, whenever I print something and do put in a PIN for that job only, it is printed right away without me having to release it.

The answer to the first question of resetting the device, that can be done by a technician, It would be called an "AltBoot, no data backup, no clone" and it is the only way to completely wipe the device.

As for the issue at hand, I recently had it come up and we have not found a resolution as yet. If we do I will update this post, in the mean-time, should you have a service contract, just have a tech paged to do the altboot, but make sure when he gets there to do as I quoted.

OK, so we now have the solution.

Go to Centerware Internet Services and select Properties>Services>Print From>Enablement

Set it to Enabled and click Apply

Open the Command Prompt on the PC and do the following:

Now go back in the driver and the option will be selectable.

If you need to remove the Print From icon at the copier you do that in CWIS under Properties>Services>Display>Show/hide

Re: WC 7845 Secure print only greyed on Disabled

Hi Joe,

Great stuff! Must have disabled it sometime during setup and forgot all about it. The other printer I mentioned has this setting enabled.

Thanks again.
