I've just had a diaster and hope someone might be able to give me some good news.
In the middle of a print job assigned to an assistant, we ran out of ink and somehow he managed to put 8400 ink in the 8570 thinking "ink is ink". Well, apparently not. Suffice to say, the print head looks to be clogged. Is there some sort of procedure I can follow to fix this, or are we totally screwed?

Assuming you took the wrong ink out (Stab it with a needle and pull it out if needed)
Then theoretically, you could just clean the print head (most likely a bunch of times to be sure)
To do so, on the control panel go to Troubleshooting > Print Quality Problems > Eliminate Light stripes > Basic
Run that at least 2 times, after at least 2 tries on basic you can try Advanced instead of Basic, but only do so once.
If still not right, print the Troubleshooting Print Quality Page to diagnose what is failing in particular.

Yes, I did already remove the wrong ink - as soon as I figured out what had happened... which was after running the light stripes page, cleaning jets by number multiple times, and doing a general cleaning, which only made it worse.
I can surely give a try at an 'advanced cleaning', but why only once? Is there something about that, rather than the regular cleaning, that I ought to be cautious about?

Much higher pressure, not good on the print heads is what I was told.

Ok, so color me confused. If the 'advanced' cleaning is bad for the head, then why did Xerox put it there, other than to bail out asshats that put the wrong F'n ink in the printer?
