Update: the toner has not yet run out, but now my printer has developed the additional problems 062-380 and 062-386, out of the blue. The Service Manual lists those errors as 062-380 Insufficient lamp brightness was detected when performing AGC. 062-386 During AOC (darkness adjustment), detected CCD output error. Those abbreviations mean Automatic Gain Control (AGC) and Automatic Offset Control (AOC).
Thus, the errors also relate to the scanning unit, and the cleaning instructions are the same: "Clean the document glass and the white stripe before proceeding". Needless to say that neither is dirty, and cleaning them does not remove the error.
The next instructions are:
3. Install a new IIT Assembly, REP 50.1.2,
4. Install a new DADF Assembly, REP 50.1.1,
5. Install a new ESS Board, REP 18.1.5.
Of course, these parts and the repairs would cost way more than a new device. Unfortunately, the printer does not scan at all anymore now and also will not go to sleep, and so it will now have to be thrown out. A crying shame. Never Xerox again ;(
Dear Mike, in Greece , the guarantee of this 6515 Xerox it's only for 1 year. It's a shame. I had problem on year ago with scanner and Xerox changed it, for almost 300,00€ . Now i have this problem with the black line in side. Two problems with scan unit, before expire 2 years from purchase. People must not purchase Xerox units. It’s a shame.
yes, it seems to me now that this is indeed a software problem (and maybe even an intentional one? Planned obsolescence???) considering that there are at least four people in this thread alone whose printer developed the exact same problem within days of each other...
[though I do not get the error 065-225 ("CIS failure") that @awherbert describes]
Anyways, I guess that's it for me with Xerox -- unacceptable that the device can't even function for two years -- never again. I will definitely not spend more on repairs than on a new device, independent of all environmental considerations. Instead, I will continue using this device until the toner runs out, and then get a new one from a competitor -- my previous printer (Brother, though not multi-function) served me well for 8 years...
That said, I still haven't fully given up hope that maybe a Xerox technician or a knowledgeable community member can give us a tip on how to fix this problem.
I have the same issue -
When I scan or copy duplex using the adf, the first page is fine, but a 2cm(ish) strip down the middle of the duplex page is printed offset to the left, overprinting what should be there (?!). So everything gets read, everything gets printed, it is just a stripe from the duplex page get printed in the wrong place leaving a thick black stripe where it should be. I am also getting a 065-225 error...
Struggling to see how this can be mechanical... I then updated the firmware and that has not affected things. Hope someone from Xerox notices that this is a common issue and tells us if we need software fix or a replacement bit... Repair visit costs same as the printer so reluctant to get them out as their helpdesk just says clean the scanner window which was spotless...
Hi Wolf ,
I can see your photos now. Yes I think we have the same problem but I have tried to fix without sucess. Funny how your machine and mine goes wrong approx. the same time with the same fault and the solution is...........to buy a new machine!!! Mmmmm. . Enough to make one a tad suspicious :-).
I hope Xerox can prove my suspicions wrong - I would be very happy for them to do so.
I now also tried double-sided copying (using the auto-feed to scan a double-sided document and printing it directly, using the copy button), and the bar is not only scanned but also printed. In contrast, double-sided printing from the computer works fine, as for you. So I am concluding that (at least for me) it is a problem in the scanner unit -- you are of course right that it might still either be a software or a hardware issue.
To clarify: when I scan a double-sided A5 sheet, the bar also does not print over the entire (A4) printout, but over the entire part that was scanned (A5). This is to be expected if there is a scanner problem, since I guess the device simply inserts whatever it scans (A5) into a blank A4 sheet. If there were instead a printer problem, the bar would print over the entire page.
I think we do have the same problem after all.
I realized now that in order to claim the legal warranty, I will need to prove that the error was there from the beginning, because more than a year has elapsed since the purchase. This will be difficult, because a negative cannot be proven (i.e., if I did not scan double-sided, how can I show that there was indeed a defect?).
So I'm afraid that I am likely also at the mercy of the people at Xerox and this forum... Any takers?
Hi Wolf - ok interesting. Mine is only over the size of the page being scanned - not more. I am scanning only - not printing at all. Printing double sided works fine! So for me not a priniting issue. Then as the thick stripe ends at the end of the scanned document (not the format size I am scanning to which is always A4) then it might be eiher hardware of software. Very odd. I think your issue is not the same as mine - though the result is the same - 2nd side big thick stripe! What a pain. I think exchange the only way but EU laws really are gone here! If I mention EU then I am laughed at. To be honest other than Germany where the EU is very strong of cousre I find the EU rules are laughed at. Spain, Italy, Greece, Hungary. Brexit has happened whether I like it or not! I export a lot to Germany and import too and it has become much more idffiuclt deptite the free trade agreement! Anyway best not go down that route!
Good luck too!
I tried the same test with the A5 input, both portrait and landscape. The stripe (which is near the center for me) is over the entire scanned area (not the entire printed area, which would indicate a printing problem). Since it runs over all the entire scanned area I am not sure that this is a software issue -- to me it seems to be indeed a hardware problem of the scanner.
To make sure, I also performed a firmware update to the newest firmware, to see whether this fixes the problem (in case it was software related), but to no avail.
