I have WorkCentre 6515 and it has worked fine for 1 year. Now when I scan/copy 2 sided - the second side has a large 2" thick black line running all the way down the left hand side. This does not happen when I print 2 sided. Only when I scan or copy. When I scan or copy 1 sided it works fine. So it is only ever 2 sided that I have an issue. Problem is this is why I bought the machine - to scan double sides in one pass. It is a function I use all the time so it is a big problem fo rme.
I am guessing must be someing to do with the scanning unit in some way (as that will have nothing to do with printing) but have no idea what.
Any help much appreciated.
I have the same issue.
Do you already know what the solution is?
I am afraid not. Nobody replied from Xerox. So no solution at present.
I found this article for lines or bands when scanning/copying 2-sides only, it has steps for cleaning. If you are still having issues after trying these steps, I suggest that you call into our support department for assistance @ 1-800-821-2797 or 1-800-835-6100
Mike, Frank, and Tammy,
I am having the same problem, starting a few days ago (see first attached picture). When using the automatic document feeder and two-sided scanning, the second side shows a large black and grey vertical line.
I called customer support (here in Germany), and they gave me a quote for a flat-rate repair which is 30% more expensive than the total cost of the printer when I bought it ;(
I also looked up the service manual where under GP34 I found instructions on how to clean the second-side scanner (see the last attached picture). I guess this is what Tammy may have referred to, but the link does not work for me. Maybe the instructions can be of help to someone.
As for me, I checked that there is neither dirt nor obstructions in the document feeder nor in the second-side scanning unit (see the second and third attached pictures). Any tips how to proceed further?
In the mean time I will try to get the seller to exchange the device (it is within the legal warranty of 2 years which holds for products in Germany).
Hi Tammy - thanks for your reply but the link (for me anyay) jsut point to an advert for a
So doesn't really help me I am afarid. Could you tell me how to clean the scnning unit?
I am in England so there is no local Xerox service here.
Thansk for your reply. Unfiortualey your pics did not come out. I have the same problem with my pics. They attach fine when I make up the post then when I actually post it they seem to disappear and I am left with the yellow warning boxes.
I will see if I can find the service manual and see how I can clean the scanning unit myself. Tammy's link doesn't work for me either - just ponts me to an ad for a new printer.
At least in Germany you have strong laws protecting consumers! We are not quote so protective in the UK! If I was you I would get an exchange. In my case I need to try the cleaning procedure but then if you already have and it had no impact on the fault then I am not too hopeful :-( !
I tried cleaningthe scanning unit and second side but no luck. By chance I tested it using a smaller A5 page and scanned it both sides onto an A4 format. The second side still has the thick (5cm) verical line runnig down left hand side BUT - only as far as the text and A5 foimat. So the thick stripe ends two thirds of the way down! Unfortunately I cannot show you as the pic attach does not work on this forum! Very frustrating.
This says to me though that the thick stripe on second page is a software issue and nothing phyical at all! Xerox need to come up with a fix here.
I tried the same test with the A5 input, both portrait and landscape. The stripe (which is near the center for me) is over the entire scanned area (not the entire printed area, which would indicate a printing problem). Since it runs over all the entire scanned area I am not sure that this is a software issue -- to me it seems to be indeed a hardware problem of the scanner.
To make sure, I also performed a firmware update to the newest firmware, to see whether this fixes the problem (in case it was software related), but to no avail.
Hi Wolf - ok interesting. Mine is only over the size of the page being scanned - not more. I am scanning only - not printing at all. Printing double sided works fine! So for me not a priniting issue. Then as the thick stripe ends at the end of the scanned document (not the format size I am scanning to which is always A4) then it might be eiher hardware of software. Very odd. I think your issue is not the same as mine - though the result is the same - 2nd side big thick stripe! What a pain. I think exchange the only way but EU laws really are gone here! If I mention EU then I am laughed at. To be honest other than Germany where the EU is very strong of cousre I find the EU rules are laughed at. Spain, Italy, Greece, Hungary. Brexit has happened whether I like it or not! I export a lot to Germany and import too and it has become much more idffiuclt deptite the free trade agreement! Anyway best not go down that route!
Good luck too!
