its really not easy to setup because you will run into issues like:
Dynamic IP, Hostname lookup (who provides your internal DNS), Security software ala Norton, SMB-versions ...
and that is expecting that you have full control over NTFS/Sharing permissions and username/password logon onto the W8 device otherwise that will also give you some headaches.
if you really want to scan to a client PC i'd recommend using a FTP-Filezilla server on that client, setting a static IP (beware if its a laptop when its moved out of your infrastructure) and let the WC74xx use FTP.
Scanning to a windows 8 machine.
You cant get a WC74xx to work with most SMTP-servers today. its simply too old (2009-2011).
It does not support SSL/TLS or StartTLS which both Gmail, Office365 and many others use.
A Workcentre 75xx would however (with correct firmware) work.
Your only alternative are to find an SMTP-server which does not require anything but plain smtp-authentication ....
And if you want to scan to SMB be aware that this device most liky does NOT support the newer SMB-standards that Windows server 2012/2016 uses.
3146351511 does not work, it comes up with error:
Your request was not processed.
Can you tell me which of these to use? and in what format? By the way I do have "Everyone" set as full access.

Then email won't work directly (The fault means the encryption isn't understood) So if you are on the firmware I linked, it isn't supported.
So you will need to use a relay, something like SMTP2Go . This won't just be a Gmail thing either, Office365/Yahoo/GoDaddy/Gmail all made the same changes and will give the same fault.
027-529 is a write error, add the account the printer is using specifically in the folder, don't rely on Everyone and make sure you use how it is formatted in the brackets as seen here
And if that doesn't fix it, give this a try:
CWIS > Properties > Security > Feature Enablement
type in 3146351511
then click Apply
Enter in 3146351510 to disable that if needed
On email I received 017-714 and SMB 027-529
I did upgrade the firmware.
I'd appreciate any other suggestions on this. I've checked the SMB share a few times, the folder is accessible by everyone. Changing anything on the SMB brings 018-505 error.
I can tell you that this machine used to be on a network with a windows domain controller. Now it is not, and I remember the scanning working before.
"Each time I make an adjustment I get an error. "
"email I tried both my regular email and my gmail and neither worked"
"the smb never seemed to connect."
All 3 statements are nearly useless, you need to provide actual faults/fault codes .
75.14.23 is 4 years old and no doubt would fail to gmail, also SMB2-3, but FTP should work for sure.
I would expect it to result in 017-714 for gmail due to not supporting SHA-2 or STARTTLS (bioth a re required by Gmail since January 2015)
And SMB would give , if i remember correctly, 018-755.
So if you are in North America, try updating the firmware first, and if that fails, try explaining the fault beyond "doesn't work"
Hello,
I have a Workcentre 7435 with version 75.14.23. I'm having all sorts of issues getting the email and the network scanning to work. Each time I make an adjustment I get an error. The system is on a small network with a couple of workstations and a router, there is no windows domain controller.
For email I tried both my regular email and my gmail and neither worked. For scanning, the smb never seemed to connect.
