I'm not trying to blame anyone, just giving background facts.
I will restart the printer (did not know about this for reset)
I will check the time
I will let you know.
Sam
The default username is admin and the password 1111.
You and the people on your network are the only people who can access the printer, so your frustration is misplaced if you are trying to blame Xerox or your printer itself.
If it worked and stopped, something changed, and if neither you or anyone on your network changed something on the printer, then something on the LAN (Gateway/DNS) got changed, or on the mail server (Password/Port/Encryption)
And if you enabled HTTPs on the printer, then the time will need to be within 3 minutes of local if you are using any common mail server (Office365/GMAIL/Yahoo). And the time on the printer can run slow or fast just like any clock if it is not set to use NTP and a reliable time server.
Ans since it appears you must have locked yourself out of the printer after repeated failed logins, you will need to reboot the printer to gain access again
I have tried to find a way to log into my system, but I cannot get in and I see no place to reset the password. It's really frustrating that the printer was connecting fine, then, without any changes being made, it won't connect any longer. So I can't scan to email, can't connect for updates, nothing. And I can't seem to log in.
Any hope for getting this fixed?
Sam
OK. I got that far. Now I need to log in. Is there a default password? I can't remember if I changed it.
Find out its IP address and put it in the address bar of your web browser
OK. I had my C405 set up to scan to email, did not change anything (anywhere) and now it can't seem to do it.
I can't remember how to get to the place where I can access the printer remotely to check the settings.
For starters, how can I log into my printer to see the settings?
Sam
Here's how I sucessfully managed to send myself an email from the web interface
System --> Remote Service upload --> Settings --> Checked all checkboxes and added my email adress --> OK (Don't bother with the Test connection... it's not for mail)
Upload now
From a known working printer I sucessfully received an email
I'm troubleshooting my other printers this way... no email = smtp not working...
...At least this way I don't have to ask a user to manually test a scan everytime I change a config
Hope this help
To be fair, it is ridiculously easy for me,because I do it for a living (I work 2nd level support for Xerox USA for higher end color devices)
And because I can weasel out information like "who is your SMTP provider" and the documentation people can't
While it isn't likely that smtp.office365.com will change, it can, and then the document is wrong, and they need to make revisions etc etc.
Xerox doesn't even pay me to be on the forum, I just do it because I *like* troubleshooting. And oddly, if they started to pay me and give me this as a full-time position (That would be awesome), it would likely end up that I would have to start worrying about those things, and do a worse job. (That would be bad)
So it is a good thing they don't pay me to be here, at least that is what I tell myself ;-)
And then I could not just post a random picture totally unrelated to the job at hand, because it doesn't look professional.
Between what you sent me and a little touch to Media Temple, it's now working!
How awesoome it would be to have all the stuff you just told me in the documentation for the printer (screenshots and everything). I would never have figured it out on my own and my local dealer has no clue how to do the email setups.
Thanks again, now I just need to figure the rest of this thing out.

Authentication fails with SMTP-AUTH (After server is connected).

SMTP server reception error. (SMTPERR_CONNECT_RESP_FAILED).
Procedure
Timeout occurs. Server load may be too heavy and network load may be too high. Retry the
job.
In both cases I suggest the firmware be updated, it should resolve it nicely
