He is the only one that explains it all perfectly. He is using a different Xerox printer but it still works. It took me 2 days of searching and now I can scan to any email address. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZZpHPLDr_4&t=635s
The attached PDF also explains exactly how to set up scanning to a folder on your computer.

Hi,
We have the same problem at Costa Rica, we have 3 machine B405 and all have the same problem.
In some case email was send buth in another printer indicate smtp server time out.
Firmware: 38.50.61
Hi,
it's the same issue in https://forum.support.xerox.com/t5/Copying-Faxing-Scanning/Error-Code-027-773-SMTP-comm-timeout/m-p/...
The problem is when you scan or forward fax to an e-mail more than 10 pages long, It ends with 027-773 error.
The file received in the e-mail is a corrupted pdf file !!! (BUG).
I tried to resove this issue with the support team and with no success.
I think Xerox support team and management should fix this issue - It is firmware issue,
or open a recall for all the B405 machines.
It is a real issue when you recieve a fax (the sender get acknowledge - OK,
and in the e-mail there is a corrupted file !!!) ==> the fax forwarding is USELESS !!!
my firmware version is 38.50.61.
Wait to hear from Support Team ASAP.
Since it is timing out it would have to be either a DNS timeout (Increase the time in the printers DNS settings) or a firewall/spam filter
Yup. Copied and pasted from another thread:
*********************************************************************************************************************
There are near always 2 versions available for any Xerox device, one is a General Release and one is a SPAR.
General releases are new builds thoroughly tested.
Spar releases are the General release with patches applied, they are not Beta, they are the same tested version with fixes and features added, the key difference is that while the GR got tested for everything, the spar gets tested for things that have been changed (So say they fix a login issue with Office365, they test that Office 365 works again, and maybe that it did not stop Gmail from working at the same time, they do not necessarily check that copying a booklet still works because the code was never touched that controls that)
Spar links tend to not change, so the link today is the same as next year, they just change the file it links to.
And you can get the latest for just about every machine except those in production class from Xerox.com/Security.
Click here in the Quick release lookup table which is a direct link to an excel spreadsheet that has the latest general and the latest spar for most every device, you can see it as of today here, but it doesn't move
Then, open in Excel (Or Google docs, or Open office etc etc) and CTRL+F to find the printer, and grab the spar link, as seen here:
I agree, not convenient, certainly not well advertised.
And here is my handy cheat sheet for "Umm, which one is actually newer?" (I did not make it, just compiled multiple iages from different sources into one graphic)
Curious if access to the non "General Release" firmware is available in someway to the general public. The General Release firmware for the C405 (all that is available to me) is v68.31.81 which is two months behind the v68.34.01 available in your link
Everything I can do is in this thread twice over, it would have to be on the mail servers end, and because it is a weird/small one, I have no way to find out what they may have done.
I logged in successfully. I checked the time and it was way off, so I reset it. I rechecked all my SMTP settings, and they were OK. I restarted the printer.
It still won't connect via SMTP.
Any other suggestions you might have for me? I'm lost.
Sam
