Cannot Finish Scan to PC Setup

Jump to solution
Product Name: WorkCentre 6515
Operating System: Windows 10 x64

Following Xerox Instructions: Set up Scan to a Folder on Your Network PC Using the WorkCentre Address Book and Windows OS; all steps successufl through Section 6.

At Section 7, step 2, none of my three web browsers (FireFox, Edge or Chrome) will allow connection to my MFP to finish setup; says the security certificate either cannot be found or is not allowed by the browser. FireFox gave best feedback saying it's likely TLS used by MFP is not now allowed by Firefox.

Neither the IPv4 Wifi or IPv4 Wifi Direct addresses input into browsers will work; get same result.

All other MFP functions work with this PC (Dell 3576, 64 bit).

Oh, yes, I also checked the firmware update; mine is 2018. So I downloaded the 2019 firmware for the WorkCentre 6515 after I reveiwed some of the other responses on 6515, but of couirse I can't select the IPv4 address for 6515. So I put on a stick an inserted it in the USB-B port (on back)--no response from 6515 except to ask if I want to scan to or scan from the stick. Therefore, can't seem to get firmware on the 6515 for my original reason. Still in same situation (see title of this post).

Not one of those browsers stops you from loading the page, all 3 will warn you *if* you enabled HTTPs and did not get a validated/signed certificate to load.

Joe, Greatly appreciate your response. Screens I get don't match yours.  Please see what follows and pics embedded:

FIREFOX: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

EDGE: Error Code: DLG_FLAGS_INVALID_CA DLG_FLAGS_SEC_CERT_CN_INVALID

Chrome: ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

I'm entering into browsers: https://10.0.0.158 as shown in instructions received.Slide1.JPGSlide2.JPGSlide3.JPG

  1. Check the connection issue.
  2. Enable Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service and associated services.
  3. Update your scanner driver.
  4. Troubleshoot hardware problems.
  5. Run System File Checker.

joanss, thanks so much for your advice--I appreciate you taking your time to help.

1. Connection: Does not appear to be an issue. I can send files to the printer to print via WiFi. Further, obtaining responses that say the SSL is too long indicate to me the printer is responding.

2. Enable Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service and associated services. WIA does NOT appear on my list of adminstrative tools. It does not exist on my computer. Note that I have another scanner (much older) that is clunky but still works. So getting images into my PC is not an issue with that.

3. Update scanner driver: as earlier indicated, I have an updated scanner driver on my PC (downloaded it from Xerox). But the instructions start with "Open a web browser and enter the device's IP address" which is the exact problem I'm trying to solve--can't get to machine through web browser. Also, I have the driver on a USB stick but when inserting that into the WC6515, I get nothing except WC6515 asking me if I need to scan something from it.

4. Troubleshoot hardware problems: in my earlier response I indicated that Windows troubleshooter responds that when running the diagnotic, it can’t find the problem.

5. System File Checker: Well that's interesting. Can't seem to run that as I cant find way to run it on my PC as an administrator--yes, a problem with my expertise, but it shouldn't be this hard.

Thanks again for trying to help.

After many hours working on this printer very frustrated and plan to return it or get a replacement.  In the the meantime I got the blasted thing work.

There is no Scan to PC Setup via USB cord.  The Printer has to be setup on a WIFI network.  Go into the connectivity settings and manually set.

It will ask you to reset device and hit close.  Dont hit close on the printer! Reset your network router.  Once your router resets be patient check your monitoring software to see if the device is on.  It should be the Workcentre 6515 may reboot or reset itself without interference.

When the console on the printer is back to the home page choose the About.

Scroll down to see if the printer has a IP address.  If it does go to Scanner config utility and enter network info {I could not find the utility} So I reinstalled the Scanner Software from the

CD if you have it otherwise download it from -->>  Make sure you choose the right OS!!!

https://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-6515/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=win10&file...

After this use the Windows Fax and Scan or Windows equailivent in your OS platform.

If that does not work for you I reccomend returning it if it is not that old.  Because, in my opinion you should allow for a Scan to PC option via USB as well.  Not sure why that function was omitted.

Scan to PC means you go to the printer, select scan, choose the PC and hit send.

What you are doing is pulling the scan from the scanner while being at the PC. That can easily be done by just installing the USB specific driver.

And as it states, you may need to update the firmware to make it usable

Re: Cannot Finish Scan to PC Setup

Joe, thanks for the driver information. I never received the email of your response so sorry for my late reply.

As stated earlier, I cannot find a way so far to get the driver into the WC6515 since the instructions start with "Open a web browser and enter the device's IP address" which is the exact problem I'm trying to solve--can't get to the 6515 through web browser. (But can send print jobs to it.) Also, I have the driver on a USB stick but when inserting that into the WC6515, I get nothing except WC6515 asking me if I need to scan something from it."

Further suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
