Re: Copying light screen values with WC7970

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the response. It looks like my best option is photo/text printed original type with background suppression off.

Strange but I checked in firefox and chrome and this is the reply to message interface. It looks like maybe uploading a pdf is not an option, maybe only an option for moderators?

Anyhow, thanks again!

Should be right here

And no, you cannot increase copy DPI.

Try a copy with Original Type > Image Options > Text That made your file work for mine

Re: Copying light screen values with WC7970

Could you tell me how to post a pdf? Call me blind but I can't seem to find where that is an option on this forum.

I have inserted an image of the document below.

When I print this, K3% does not show up and K5% is barely there as expected. Then when I copy using either black and white or colour settings, with background suppression OFF K15% is equivalent to K5% and K20% = K10% from the original. I tried darkening it from the machine but this has little effect on the lighter screens and makes the darker screens too dark.

So turning background suppression off does improve the quality, however I was hoping to get it closer to the original. I noticed on the specs sheet you linked to it says copy dpi is up to 600x600...is it possible to adjust the dpi for copying?

Re: Copying light screen values with WC7970

If Copy is on Color or BW you will get better results than from Auto Detect

Make sure that Background Suppression is not enabled.

Post a pdf of your job you can print but not scan and I will test it in the lab on the 7970 as well as the 7855, 5955,C60,560,DC260 and the 9303 and see if there is an issue with your machine (I think there is) or an issue with Xerox in general (Tested by Product, product family and other Xerox families)

Specs (pdf link)

Copies are 600*600DPI

Print is up to 1200*2400DPI

I highly suggest updating the firmware, but it won't help the current issue, but the latest firmware (ends with 19700) is simply better than the General Release from shipping. (ends 34540)

Copying light screen values with WC7970

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

When I print a series of screen values (say from K3, K5, K10, K15, K20, to K25) and then try to copy that, only values K20 and higher show up. I have tried adjusting the saturation, original type, and darkness.

I want to know what is the lightest value in a gradient that a photocopy could reproduce? And what is the default dpi set to for copying on a WC7970? Can the dpi be adjusted?
