What is the "For OCR" button under Scan Presets on on the Email tab then used for?
Its for what you were doing, running the scan through OCR software, which simply put, means it scans for text and treats it as such, where the other presets consider white to be intentional background (Picture of a white thing), the For OCR preset treats it as the nothing that it is, the background is irrelevant to the file
Also, will the method you outlined not only make the documents searchable, but also allow for column data to be copied. Yes, the attached is a random doc I just did for this question.
Joe,
Hello there. Thank you for the detailed response. We checked this morning and we do have this feature/option on our 7435. I must admit that we completely missed it. Folks are in the process of trying it right now. I must admit, however, that I am still confused. What is the "For OCR" button under Scan Presets on on the Email tab then used for?
Also, will the method you outlined not only make the documents searchable, but also allow for column data to be copied. I will try it myself later when folks clear away from the machine.
Thank you.
Regards,
johnnyd
Yes, possibly, maybe....
It is/was an option on this device, if you have the feature it will be in the format settings.
Be advised, it will then scan much slower and make vastly larger files while doing so.
Hello there Xerox folks. We have a tremendous need to be able to email data files in a pdf format which can then be searched and/or columns of data selected and copied. When emailing, on the Email tab, under Scan Presets, we select For Ocr, save this option, and send the email. Then we usually operate on it with an OCR software, in our case we have been using PDF-Xchange Viewer. Next we can select and copy and preserve column data and search the file. Is there a way to do this directly from the Workcentre 7435 instead of having to go through this intermediate step. In other words, can we make a searchable pdf directly from the Workcentre 7435 as I have seen on other Xerox machines? I have checked with the various team members and folks seem to struggle with this being done in two steps. It would be great to be able to shorten this.
Thank you.
