I finally got it to work!!! Thank you for all your help!
The 58XX is vastly newer and much easier to set up because of that. My personal opinion is also that Xerox makes much simpler interfaces than those from FujiXerox.
The 5335 has the same ability, and I showed in pictures how to get to the feature (albeit I did check FTP instead of SMB), so if the 53XX is currently able to scan via Workflow scanning to the share where the faxes are to go, then it can and will work.
If you don't have the option as shown, it is because when you bought the device, you did not buy the option, at the time the 53XX product was introduced, big MFP's tended to be modular, people did not want to buy more than copy/print devices, scanning wasn't a thing people wanted, so the manufacturers made devices that could be sold as standalone copiers and every feature was an addition to it. Check out the number of add-ons it had.
Now days people would not even condsider a device that didn't do copy/scan/fax/email/SMB and FTP at the very least. Most also wouldn't consider a device without MOPRIA and Airprint. But the 53XX isn't sold now. Times changed.
We normally use SMB for our scan to folder setup. And it is used on the 58XX series machines for fax forwarding. Super simple on those. So I wonder if this machine is just not capable of doing what we need. We are trying to get it to forward to a folder on our shared drive, not to a folder within Xerox. Which seems to be what's happening here. I'm stumped, and our Xerox guy doesn't know how to either.
You seem to be following the directions for the 58XX, which is not the same.
The 53XX also needs to have the network scan kit (paid option) for it to be there, but if that is there
CWIS > Properties > Services > Fax > Fax Received Options
Folder number is your choice
Pick your poison
Enter the info in the next screen as needed.
Hi Joe,
This is what I thought, but thank you for confirming.
Do you happen to know HOW to set this up on the 5330 model? I feel like I am missing an option from CentreWare. When I go here: Properties > Services > Fax > Fax Repository Setup -- I do not have the Fax Repository Setup option listed. This is what I believe I need to set this up. Am I correct, and is there something I have to enable for it to show up?
Thanks!
I have a general question about setting up fax forwarding on a Xerox WorkCentre 5330 (we also have some 5845, 5855 machines in our buildings).
The 53XX and 58XX are very different devices, technically they are made generations apart by very different companies (Xerox and FujiXerox)
We use SMB to forward to a network folder. If a machine is set up to receive faxes for a specific fax #, and we were to set up fax forwarding for the IP of that machine... will faxes that come to that machine automatically be forwarded to the folder?
I simply can't understand what you are stating, if fax is set to forward, all faxes will be, the phone line it comes in on is totally irrelevant here, as is the phone number it comes from, every fax will be forwarded
Can you set up fax forwarding for a fax # other than the one connected to that machine?
This sounds like you are trying to intercept faxes from another device or service, the answer is no, it isn't possible at all in any way. That would be no different than expecting a setting on your phone to allow all phone calls to Scarlett Johansson to come to your cell instead of hers
We've found that some of our machines show fax #'s on them, that aren't correct. The analog line connected to the machine is actually programmed for a different fax #. So I wonder if we set up fax forwarding on that machine, and the number on the display for fax line 1 is incorrect, will it still forward?
You program the number in the device for the one it is using, not the service.
53XX , Machine status > Tools > System Settings > Fax Service settings > Local Terminal Information > G3 Line 1-Fax ID > Change Settings
58XX , Machine status > Tools > Service Settings > Embedded Fax settings > Line 1 setup > Fax Number
I wonder if the forwarding happens at the machine level.
Yes
If the machine even cares which fax line is connected to it.
Nope
Does it forward for the machine or the fax #?
The machine receives the fax and then sends it where you forwarded it instead of printing it out
I hope this makes sense. If anyone can forward me to documentation about this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
