the correct step is to contact a local dealer/reseller. He will be able to provide you with a code. You will be required to provide the device serial number and in some cases a prove of ownership, if the device was never serviced before.
If this scan-to-email feature was present at the device and after a service procedure by Xerox authorized staff this feature is gone. You might contact the customer service directly. They will not provide you with a code but will try to track the service activity and make sure someone will be sent out to reconfigure the device.
