There is a switch in the Left Rear when the DADF is in the up position. That switch needs to be actuated when the DADF is in the down position for it to use the DADF. You can press the switch manually, and see the lamp carriage move to the Left into the proper position to use the DADF. Sometimes the plastic actuator misses the switch. Put a heavy piece of tape over the switch to hold it in the down position if you always use the DADF.
The picture is from M20. Nd the hinge is the joint where the DADF is caught on the scanner.
is this picture of a documate 4830 and what part of the scanner is it? how do you get to it? Also what is DADF hinges? Sorry but I am not expert in repairing scanner but willing to learn. Thanks, Shirley
Hi,
First check the DADF hinges to see if they are not broken. AN broken hinge make the DADF to not actuate the DADF presence sensor.
Also check the sensor in the picture bellow to be in position.
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately it did not help. I cleaned the glass and I do not see any dirt or damage on it, but still the printer seems to prefer to scan from the empty glass.
It's strange because nothing special happened since the last time it worked.

I am having the same problem intermittently before but now persistent. I have documate 4830 and have reinstalled xerox documate driver and installed updated one touch drivers. I am still able to scan single pages on glass. the glass is very clean and just cleaned rollers before. Any other suggestions?
If it thinks something is on the glass, the ADF won't feed.
So in short, clean the glass and make sure the backing pad isn't damaged/dirty either
My M20i somehow started ignoring the ADF. The printer detects when I insert the originals into he ADF (beeps and powers on), but then scans from empty glass when copying. Note: It also happens when faxing, so it seems not to be a copy setting which disables the feeder as described in the FAQs of another printer type.
How does the printer decide which to use? Is this a known problem?
Thanks in advance
Andreas
