I've had an issue for several weeks after updating desktops with three different versions of Xerox scanners from Windows XP to Windows 7. The scanner models are 272, 262i, and 3125.
Users have to turn the scanners off and back on when the scanner seems to lose connection with the computer. The buttons to use 'simplex' general stop working as well.
I have talked to Xerox support several times and they are at a deadend. I have tried uninstalling the drivers with their advanced tools and reinstalling. I have made sure the computers are up-to-date with their bios and chipset drivers. I have turned off sleep, hybrid sleep, and hibernation.
Users are also using Paperport 14 that is imported with OneTouch.
Anyone have any issue like this before?

Please take a look at the troubleshooting section of your user manual for several suggestions on actions to take when the scanner stops communicating with the PC. If none of those help you will need to contact support again and ask to speak to someone in second level.
