Rui,

I saw your great post on the topic of scanning.  I've been trying to weeks to get my workcentre 6505 scanning functionality working.  It worked for the first month and then all the sudden stopped--no scanner recognized, either via network or when I hardwire in via USB.  All types of messages from scanner not detected to scanner in use come up.  I've reinstalled the drivers and reset everything numerous times.  Any help you can provide is appreciated.  Overall, my setup is pretty basic: Windows XP laptop, router, cable modem.  No complex servers or anything like that.  Printing works like a charm! but no scanning :(

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.  If possible, I would make myself available for a call if you would be available.  Anything to get up and running because this machine is sweet when its 100%, but right now, I'm a little worried about what to do if it never works again.  Thanks!

Hi,
I'm not sure but yes, it needs SNMP, but only in the setup I think. Then it should not use it. I think the best way is to install it and test it if works.

Thank you for your quick response.  One of the downline admins was reading some documentation on this machine.  Does the SNMP have to be enabled on the device to install and use this utility?  SNMP is not authorized in the DoD STIG.

jc359,

If you have a server and your machine came with Network Scanning I would recommend setting it up. You can scan to your users home folders or even just a file share 0- with the correct NTFS and SHARE permissions it can be secure.

Thank you,
Jordan

Hi,
The net scan utility is to be installed on the workstations. Is like a TWAIN driver that you can use to scan from any application that support it, like MS Ofiice or Photoshop. It simply do a scan to desktop.
If your users can not send to email, I suggest that you set the printer to scan to folder. If this folder is on your server, you can share it to anyone that needs scan. Each user can also have his own folder.
To do that you can follow these steps:

I am with the DoD.  We have multiple WorkCentre 5325/5330.  Our users are not allowed to scan to email, due to security restrictions.  They can however scan to desktop.  I have found the Network Scan Utility 3 on the Driver site for these models. Should this utility be installed on the print server or local machine?
