I think we have to assume that older printers will not be upgraded to support the new SMB standard. The easiest workaround that I have found is to use FTP. For whatever reason, SMB never did work for us in Snow Leopard and earlier. FTP was recommended by Xerox tech support at the time we bought our 6180MFP when SMB did not work. FTP worked in Snow Leopard, but sadly Apple decided to make FTP less accessable in Lion and later versions of OSX. The service is still present, however, and be turned on in the Terminal. I found instructions here:
http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20110725142848292
The terminal commands can be copied-and-pasted straight from the article. This worked to restore network scanning in Mavericks.
When, or will Xerox support the scan to Mac with SMBX in 10.8.5 (and Mavericks)?
Scott is correct. This is not vendor specific and it's happening around the board on Mac.
No. There were no problems until the SMB implementation was replace in Mac OS X Lion (10.7) with SMBX. Now workarounds are needed.
So you are saying that the Phaser does not officially support scanning to the Mac?
Samba, the open source SMB implementation was replace in Mac OS X Lion (10.7) with SMBX. Currently several multifunction printers are not able to connect to the new SMBX service to deliver scanned images as they only support SMB.
A 3rd party SAMBA Service (like SMBUp) or FTP Service (like PureFTPd) on the MAC could be used so SMB or FTP can be done from multifunction printers to the MAC.
Xerox does not officially recommend or support any specific 3rd party application(s). If a customer decides to use a 3rd party application they are to use at their own risk.
Hello,
I am working with a Xerox Phaser 3635 MFP. We are a 100% windows enviornment, but this particular unit is going into a full Mac enviornment. I have a Mac Mini running OSX 10.8.3 setup to test.
When accessing the web interface of the phaser, I have to select default file destination/file repositories.
I have added the host name in form of \\10.0.199.152 the share name is \scans because I created a folder on the root of the drive to share. I have given everyone read/write access to this particular folder. However, when I try to scan I get a notice that the job failed.
I can't seem to find any guide or documentation on how to properly set this up. Any tips/ideas? If you need me to provide more information please let me know.
ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
