When I scan using the "Document Type...Mixed" or "...Photo" settings, the image is out of register. Looks like shadows of cyan (color) or gray (BW). It only goes away if I change the setting to "Text" and Black & White. It used to scan just fine; it started acting weird a few months ago and I've been trying to troubleshoot it for awhile. I tried updating the firmware using "6180_Mac_FW_IPv6_20080218.dmg" but it times out and still has the 2007 firmware showing on the configuration page. Anything I can do to get the scanner to register properly or is it time to call a service tech? Thanks!
PhaserOnStun,
Welcome to the new Xerox Support Communities. I am sorry to hear that you are having registration issues with your phaser. I don't recall seeing any other Phaser 6180 posts on the forums yet but we are growing quickly. Have you tried the online support knowledgebase?
Brent
Yes, I have searched not only here, but all over the www. The closest thing to a solution that I have found is to disassemble the ADF scanner assembly to view the ADF scanner correction values and try to manually recalibrate the registration. But the disassembly is quite daunting. Is there a simpler way to access the scanner values? Are they on record at Xerox? Or is there a software "reset" of the scanner values? The Phaser is just over 2 years old and I would be bummed if the hardware has already failed.
was there ever a resolution for this. have a 6180 doing same thing, suspect MCU pwb. Did you fix yours? if so please share...
Never was able to get it fixed. No further response from this forum's Xerox so-called "support." Checked with a local Xerox repair place and just a visit from them would cost me $150. I'm very disappointed in Xerox quality. So I just ordered a Canon Canoscan 9000f for $199 instead. If you do get yours fixed, please post to the forum for future reference!
Hello PhaserOnStun,
I'm sorry to hear about the issue with your Phaser. I have forwarded the message to an employee in our Customer Relations Group. You will be contacted by email as soon as possible.
Thank you for your participation in the forums!
Any potential resolution to this issue?? I have a client that has the same scanning problem on a 6180MFP/D. The Color scans are off along 2/3 of the scan line. B&W scans work just fine.
This printer is only 3 years old, and does not have 30,000 pages on it yet.
PLEASE POST a reasonable and cost-effective solution to this problem.
Hi larryb63,
Thank you for using the Support Forum. If you are seeing any misregistration on the prints please try one of the following two solutions:
Automatically Adjust the Color Registration or
Perform a Manual Color Registration
Make sure that the document glass and the CVT glass have been cleaned
Install the Current Scan driver. First remove the old scan driver and install the the scan driver from the drivers and downlaod site.
If none of this helps please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.
Cheryl,
I believe that only checks the registration of the PRINTING?
The printer does beautiful color output if it is printed from the computer. It is the scanner within the ADF that has the problem.
Here's a print from the computer:
And here's a print of the same sheet that I tried to COPY with the 6180:
Sorry for the poor quality...I had to resize and change the jpg quality to get it to import here. These scans were done on a Ricoh copier, NOT the 6180 in question. If anyone wants the original scans (2.5Mb ea.) just ask.
Hi Larryb,
After looking at the examples it looks like there is a problem with the scanner and you would need to have your technician take a look t the issue.
