In case anyone stumbles upon this, I had the same error, but when trying to scan to SMB folder (network share on a computer). I was using a Xerox WorkCentre 6515. Eventually I ended up using WireShark to investigate, and noticed that the printer wasn't even trying to send traffic out after scanning -- it just errored immediately when trying to create the PDF, and spit out error 017-772 for some reason.
In my case, I had to Apps > Scan To section, and turned off "Searchable Text", "Auto Orientation", and "Remove Blank Pages". It started working, so I went back in and turned them back on, one at a time. But... it kept working.
I'm guessing there's some sort of underlying bug somewhere that gets "reset" when you do this, but, I'm happy with the result.
What model Xerox device do you have?
I am trying to setup Scan to email and am getting error 17-772 and cannot find anything on this errot. I am trying to use the Spectrum ISP SMTP. Tried port 993 and 587 with SSL on mail.brighthouse.com.
