Dear TammyL,
So the manual that instruct me to download the ScanBack utility is false?
You linked an article that shows how to install the ScanBack.
Now You say, Your team says ScanBack is not needed to scan from the printer itself onto the desired PC.
I think You did not understand me.
I can scan. From the PC. Not from the printer. I can start the Scan and Print Experience app on the PC and start a scan from the PC. It is not a problem... do not try to fix it. It is not broken.
The problem is: I can not scan from the printer itself to the PC. So when I stand by the printer and taping the printer's screen / interface to start a scan to a desired computer (that should have installed a host software that receives the connection from the printer) (AND NOT A SHARED FOLDER!!! DO NOT WANT TO SCAN TO A SAHRED FOLDER!), so.. in this case there is no option on the printer to scan to a computer, because there is no software installed on any computer that can handle the printer's request to receive the scan, BECAUSE THIS SOFTWARE DOES NOT EXIST ON XEROX's website.
So the next reply from You, or any Xerox employee MUST contain:
Direct link to the software that has been tested by the replyer itself
AND
A video about she/he downloads, install that software AND shows when she/he step to a Xerox B315 and can scan to the computer she/he installed the software to (whose download URL has been linked in her/him reply too).
Ohh.. and will not call that number, sorry.
If that software exist, link it, and prove that You installed and used the way the manual says!
Hello GeraZsoltHUN,
I spoke with our analyst team and they said the Xerox Smart Start driver that you already downloaded is all that is needed,it includes scanning. They suggested that you call into the support department 1-800-821-2797 and they would be happy to assist you.
Dear TammyL!
Please-please read what I wrote above! Please!
THE XEROX MANUAL SAYS I NEED THAT SCANBACK SOFTWARE FROM THE XEROX WEBSITE IN ORDER TO SCAN FROM THE PRINTER TO THE PC!
Ok? Do You got it? You, Xerox says, I have to download that software. It is not my fantasy...
I downloaded that "software" (rather call it a garbage) from the Lexmark website, and it works sometime, and sometime not. Even the rare times it works, it is a peace of **#@& because I have to run it manually before i can scan from the Xerox printer.
So if You have info about a setting, that sets: correct scanning ON / OFF, than I turn it ON if You say.
It is not a setting... I could add a computer, if the garbage software from Lexmark running and can scan from the Xerox printer to the PC by controlling the Xerox printers buttons on the printer itself (after i started the software on the pc).
So please do not ask me to check settings... provide the software that can handle the function the printer has!
Please read the Xerox B315 manual, if You doubt me. Thank You!
EDIT:
The article says the same as the manual.
"
FOR WINDOWS USERS
Using Scanback Utility
"
I have to download from that website... Did You found the software? I not!
That link redirects to "https://www.support.xerox.com/".
After that even if I search for "scan back" or "scanback", there is no result for the software.
There are 4 result pointing to articles that has the same link that redirected to "https://www.support.xerox.com/" , and the circle is complete.
So please... be smarter and take the time to investigate if You can resolve the problem 100% before You start a reply! Thank You!
Hello GeraZsoltHUN,
Have you checked to be sure that the Scan to Computer feature is enable on the printer, please check out this article on how to do this. If you are still having issues after trying these steps, I suggest that you call into our support department @ 1-800-821-2797. They will be able to assist you in getting this setup correctly.
Thank You KahmL!
Maybe my english expression is poor.
I can scan from the computer with the Scan and Prin Experience software. In this case the user have to go to the scanner, put the documents in, go back to the computer, and start the scan process on the PC, and go back to the scanner after it and get the documents. It is working now.
Xerox B315 has the ability to start a scan process from the printer's interface and not the PC, so You go to the scanner / printer, put the documents in, start the scan process to the desired PC (not shared folder!, but the receiving host app on the PC, called ScanBack - that is a none existent software at the moment), and after the scan finished the user gets the documents and get back to the PC where the files are waiting for them.
Brother do this as a standard, with the default driver. No need any extension, or external software.
Lexmark has a ScanBack utility that technicaly a pre-beta, as it can be used if you start the app by hand every time You want to scan, and about every 5th scan can be achived because the other attemts are connection failure, etc...
Brother's solution is in the background and You do not have to touch the pc in order to be able to start a scan from the scanner to the pc. Userfriendly settings, great experience.
I thought Xerox is a great brand... lol.. shame on me... Never ever buy / recommend Xerox for my customers.
Just Brother.
Wait. You want to scan from a network printer to a desktop folder and NOT using folder sharing?
OK.
If you absolutely must have a software solution, look at NAPS2.
Good luck!
Thank You KahmL for the effort You put into the post.
I said above, that I do not want to use network sharing.
That is an added possibility of error, added complexity of a system, and added security breach.
aaaand... I want the function that the product should be able t do.
You don't need the software. In fact, I'd suggest you uninstall it.
The documentation for the B315 is a mess and is next to useless. Truely awful - almost as if they don't want to acknowledge that the printer even exists (and yet, is the replacement for the WorkCentre 3330/3345).
I had to call and speak with a Support rep to find out how to do this properly.
Access the CentreWare Internet Service by putting the IP address of your printer in a browser.
Log in using the appropriate credentials.
On the left-hand side menu is the "Shortcuts" entry - click that.
Click the Add Shortcut button to add a new shortcut.
Change the type to Network Folder and wait while the screen refreshes.
Enter the shortcut name (person / desktop id / whatever)
Enter the Share Path - this is the full computer name AND shared folder on the computer! For example: //yawpc121/scans
Enter a prefix for the File name (this will appear before the automatically applied full date and time stamp)
Enter any Authentication as required
Changes the other settings as needed and click Save.
For your users, all they have to do is go to the device, click on the Shortcuts icon, select their shortcut name, click through the next option, click the green "go" button and the scan will go to their folder.
Hope that helps!
Dear CathyO-Xerox,
Please read carefully my words:
I have installed the Scan and Print Experience software.
Ok? Got it? Installed. The Scan and Print Experience software.
Please write a STEP-BY-STEP guide, where and what should I click with the mouse in order to setup the function: initiate a scan from the printer's interface to a selected PC (Not shared folder!).
The printer has no selectable PC to scan to, so installing Scan and Print Experience is not enough.
I'd like You (Xerox) to prove that You (Xerox) are not fooling me as a customer with a function that actually do not have the software background to be able to use that (function)! Provide a video about using it!
(After You installed the required software, You must only use the printer's interface in order to scan to a PC, so You should not make any click on the pc in order to scan a document!)
Hello Gera,
This is what I was told by a product team member:
The pull Scan utility is part of the Scan and Print Experience drivers. He only needs to download the driver per the attached video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxlQjr2X38s
