Scanning handwriting to pdf fills in closed areas with a solid??

Jump to solution

I have a WorkCentre 7970 with Software Version 072.200.165.4201

When scanning a document with a handwritten signature in colour, to pdf at any dpi, there seems to be a grey shading that fills in certain closed parts of the handwriting. (Please see the below) Do you have any idea what could be causing this?

Scanning any handwriting on a document results in this, but most of the time it fills in the closed areas with solid white so it is less obvious.

After trying out different options with background suppression on and off, colour, grayscale, auto and black and white. Black and white scanning is the only option that does not produce this issue because creates a bitmap document.

Why would scanning to pdf alter a document? Are there any settings that may help prevent this from happening to any closed area? (This does not occur when scanning to TIFF or JPEG)

Many thanks!!

Try lowering the Compression setting, Suppression wouldn't do anything for this issue.

And possibly set the original type to Text.

I tried changing to text (all options) and lowering the compression.

Unfortunately neither resolved the situation.

Any other suggestions?

This is happening on multiple 7970 machines. I have had a technician in and they have not yet given me an answer as to why this is happening.

Are they all running that same firmware? If so, try the latest from here.

My machine in the lab does not seem to do what all yours are, but mine are all running much more current firmwares so if it was indeed a glitch at some point, it is possible it has been resolved in the past already.

If they are on different firmwares, my guess would be that they were setup with a clone file that possibly was corrupted, or had a corrupt setting and it was spread across the devices.

Of course I'm guessing, and doing so with limited information.

In case anyone else runs into this issue. After trying out a few options, it turns out that it was a setting in the scan template compression setting called MRC that was enabled. When we disable the MRC the scanner no longer does any of this compensation. However, taking off MRC increases the size of the file by x3.
