Scanning to SMB using Host Name Error

Jump to solution
Product Name: Xerox AltaLink B8045 / B8055 / B8065 / B8075 / B8090 Multifunction Printer
Operating System: Windows 10

Good day. I have setup a few Versalinks in the past to scan and used the address book to add different contatcs(computers) to scan to. I dont know if its something extra that has to be doine with Altalinks. I made a user sepcifically to scan to, gave all the permissions, shared the folder and used host name. When I go to test connection I usually get failed...cannot reach (computer name). I can get it to work using IP address but we are using DHCP so over time the Ip addresses will change. I tried a few computers with the same result. A couple times I did restart the copier and the scan did go through like once using hostname but when I tried again it would fail. I was thinking first maybe firewall but it works with IP address so why is it having a problem reaching the computer name. I also tried it using the workflow scanning option and hostname but same result. If anyone can help please do. Also if it helps the port that is next to hostname is 445. Also i tried it on a Windows 7. Thank you

All the AltaLink and Connectkey line of printers do not have Windows Networking built in, so unless the printer is set to get its IP address via DHCP, it won't be able to resolve internal hostnames in the vast majority of scenarios.

Older generation printers work, and all the VersaLink products do.

The printer itself is set to a static IP but the other computers I am scanning to are DHCP. So is there any workaround to be able to use the computer name (host name)

Either set the printer to DHCP (Set it to always use its current IP via MAC address if desired) or scan to an IP address (Set it to always use its current IP via MAC address if desired)
