Using smtp.office365.com:587, you must now create an app password like with Gmail. If it is a business account, you have to go into the admin portal and enforce MFA for the specific email to make the app password option available.
Glad you were able to get this resolved. Just a little more information to assist you with this, last year Microsoft starting requiring users of Microsoft Office 365/Outlook to use a Outlook App password when scanning to email. In case anyone cares, MX record, no SSL/TLS security and no login - works for internal, thats all we need.
I don't know why this was such a struggle to resolve, being as the answer is so obvious.
I'd like to join onto the many of others that have had issues setting up smtp to operate with Office 365.

Dual stack networking is disabled, so no IPv4 only
DNS is set for 188.8.131.52
NTP is set for time.windows.com
TLS 1.3 enabled
TLS Security Level = Compatability Mode
Device certificate - Server = one is present
SMTP - SSL/TLS Communication = SSL/TLS
Device certificate - Client = one is present
Verify Remote Server Certificate = Disabled
SMTP options :
Device Email = an account with a mailbox license
- has been tested to NOT require MFA authentication on login
Server Address = our MX record
SMTP Port = 25
Connection Security = SSL/TLS
Outgoing SMTP Auth = Off
Copying the settings that are seen to work on our other internal HP and Lexmark devices.
We've also tried with smtp.office365.com (port587) with no success.
Error received with SSL/TLS is 017-714 "Smtp over ssl failed"
Error received with STARTTLS is 027-504 "Invalid SMTP serviers response"
Could anyone offer any other tips on what we can do to get this working or offer examples of what is working for them please ?
