I just purchased and set up a Xerox WorkCentre 6515. Everything, including the duplex function, seems to be working fine--everything except for one critical feature, and that is the ability to scan documents from the ADF (or glass, for that matter) to a folder on my PC's desktop. I have followed the manual's directions to the letter, but there isn't even an option of "Scan to desktop" present for me to choose. In fact, some of what the manual instructs me to do to scan something isn't even possible with my machine's configuration.
This machine looks to be a replica of the Dell 3110CN system I had that died on me. That unit had an awesome software package that allowed me to open it and use it to scan and save things in a breeze from my printer's ADF to a folder on my PC. I was hoping this Xerox 6515 would offer the same, but it seems to be much more complicated. Right now, I can't even scan period.
A 6515 is just a lower end VersaLink product, basically less memory, and therefore no EIP stuff.

If it doesn't work with those directions, you just need a firmware update (or you did it wrong;-) )
And if you are thinking you already checked and you already have the latest firmware, I doubt it
Why is this taking me hours and being unsuccessful? This model printer essentially looks and smells like the Dell 3110cn, which crapped out on me. The Dell had all the multi-function features built in and so easy to use. I didn't have to try and download .bin files and other crap. I turned it on, connected it to my PC, stuck the documents into the feeder, and used a Dell program box on my desktop to scan and save to a folder on my desktop. Simple as that. Why can't I do anything like this with the Xerox. For being so advanced, it is nothing more than a grossly overpriced printer!
That appears to be a 32-bit installation program. I have Windows 64-bit and am unable to install that. I did find--I think--the software package to install this on Windows 64-bit systems. After I did this, why is it asking for an IP address? Why can't it simply recognize the printer/scanner/copier as it's connected to my PC?
Had I known this printer would have been so ridiculously complex, I would NOT have bought it! I was told it was basically a "replica of the Dell 3110 series," which I loved because it was plug-and-play a scanner/printer/copier/fax. It's obviously no replica, because it doesn't do half of what the Dell does!
Xerox made the 3110cn for Dell. It is a rebranded Phaser 6280. Neither have a scanner and neither look like this printer.
I linked to the SW support for the OS you specified in your original post. You simply change the OS from the drop down.
The ip address is the address on the network. Are you connected via wifi, ethernet, or usb? USB would not have an ip address. Clicking device->about or Device->information will list your ip address (format is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) which you can plug in to the TWAIN scan utility. However this address will change everytime the printer reboots and and is given a new address from the router, and I don't get the impresssion your interested in details to resolve this.
I suggest you run the Smart Start software which should setup and auto recognize everything on a network connection.
