grgsam: Your answer to the scanning from a Xerox 6515 to Windows 10 PC a year ago was extremely helpful--expecially with reference to the two websites mentioned in your reply. The only issue I found was that I could not get to the created share folder on my PC from the printer control panel with a blank password for logon purposes. I just created alternate credentials on my Windows login and that worked after entering them in address book SMB setup of the print server. Thanks.
Setting the scanning to a desktop folder is unnecessarily complex. Xerox needs to come up with software to solve that issue. Until they do, here is a helpful guide that I came up with after many hours of trial and error.

Once you select SMB:
Use Hostname (computer name: example DESKTOP-YTR9EUH, which is found in This PC, properties) rather than IP4. If you are not sure of the hostname, use cmd prompt (use the search box to find it) and type in Hostname and press enter
Share*: input box is the file name on the desktop that you created (example: Scans)
Login Name: The login name is the name on the person assigned to the computer (use the cmd prompt and then type “echo %username%” (without the quotes) and press enter. The name after is the login name.
Port: change port number to 445
Password: The password is the password that you originally set the computer up with when you purchased the computer (if you used your email to register your computer with Microsoft and later changed your password for your email, the original password is used, not the changed password.
Press ok in both dialog boxes and you are done.
I wonder if, perhaps, a class action lawsuit against Xerox ought to be considered. After all, this product is NOT what Xerox advertises it to be and do. How much more fraudulent can they be?
wow so i gotta say, i got this device from Newegg for a client for its similarity to the 3115 as well, i've used Xerox products in the past, and the Smart Start installation has all of the drivers, ran an update but there are still no fixes for it (device UI says we're using software 1.57.3), even installed the Scan Management software...still no help. I did find the following video on Xerox Support's official YouTube Channel, which walks you through setting up SMB functionality (PC restart required) and setting up the pathname on your PCs...good thinking, but still nothing. **PROTIP: i advise you to setup links to network paths via WebUI. might not work too well for you using the Device UI**
So i thought maybe something was iffy with my client's network (which i set up but i'd address that later) and offered to take the printer home with me to my home network, which uses the same Internet Service Provider she does, and i have a proxy network for, ummm....other uses.
Ethernet setup using DHCP on my ISP's router *still shows the IP of my client's office, even though it's on my router and connecting via DHCP (meaning a new IP is to be handed to this device)* no luck. i thought "this is crazy" and decided to run the Smart Start anyway, sure enough, it can't find the device because it's not on the network/subnet.
Worked on this for like 6 hours yesterday, determined to find a fix. 10 minutes on my home network that seems to have imprinted my client's IP on a device network card set on DHCP? yeah, i give up now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Brother, HP even Epson had better scan functionality that didn't do what this thing is doing. phooey.

I'm still waiting for someone to reply to tell me how to simply scan a document via the scanner into a pdf! This unit ADVERTISES THAT THIS IS, IN FACT, A FEATURE of it! If it is not capable of it, then that's blatant false advertising!
This is a disgrace. I really regret having bought this piece of garbaage. How do you market a scanner without providing the proper software to run the thing. You guys suck.
Yes, I did mean the 3115, as that's the one I had that scanned SOOOOO easily. I'd stick a few sheets into the ADF, open the software on my PC, then click scan, and voila! It would scan the items and save them to a predetermined folder on my desktop. I did this via the USB cable connection. Now you're saying that this VERY easy method is no longer possible? Who's the "genius" that decided this???
So now I've got to go through the headache of trying to set up a network connection? I'm willing to bet this will be a pain in the you-know-what as well. I sure wish I would've known how literally user UNfriendly this printer was before I bought it. How naïve of me to think that a Xerox exact duplicate of the very user friendly Dell 3115cn would be a primitive, overly complicated dinosaur.
I'm sure you mean the Dell 3115cn. It had the scanner, not the 3110cn. Same print engine, 1 with scanner, 1 without. I work at Dell and I just happened to have written the training documentation on BOTH devices.
Now, to your Scan to Desktop issue. I've found the 6515 User's guide to be incorect in that the Scan to Desktop feature does not function as written. The device needs to be installed as a WSD device and you must use the Windows Fax and Scan application (see the Windows accessories folder)
If you attempt to use the use the "Scan to > Home" function on the printer panel, you will get the message "Home destination cannot be found" (this is what the scan to desktop instructions tell you to use)
And the real kicker... Scan to PC using a USB cable does not work at all. The unit MUST be connected via the network connection.
