When scanning to email a message is displayed on the screen. It states:
Job Paused by device
Current job settings have caused the device to reach a memory threshold
Resume scanning will ignore this warning for the current job
Performance may be impacted if scanning more than 25 2 sided originals
Jobs may be lost is scanning more than 848 2 sided originals
Cancel scanning and adjusting resolution or compression quality settings may reduce file size and resolve the problem.
The user can press resume scanning or cancel scanning.
The resolution for the scans is set at 200 dpi, and the compression is mid level.
What can I do to get rid of this message? I just started happening this week.
It takes memory to clear memory...
These things run a secure disk image overwrite after every job, so if we go with the assumption this issue occurs only after doing a couple/few/plethora of scans in relatively quick succession, then it is likely that the machine is pausing so that the disk image overwrite can finish purging the old scan from memory.
And if that is the case, you have 2 options (3 if you include buying another faster more robust scan solution)
1. Change the machine so it no longer does immediate overwrites after every job, if this works, you have solved the issue, and likely no bad things will happen, unless someone tears apart the printer, takes the hard drive, decrypts the data, and recompiles the files on it to possibly view the documents you scanned. To do that
CWIS > Properties > Security > Image Overwrite Security and set it to Disabled
Then, for safety sake, select Disk Overwrite and set it to something like daily at midnight so the aforementioned corporate espionage guys can only get today's scans when they steal the drive.
And Option 2 would be to try setting it to pdf/a and disable OCR (Image Only), but of course while the file size will be better, it obviously will not be a searchable document, so if that matters, this option is not good at all, but it cuts down a huge amount of processing power and memory required for the job.
We get that message for every scan, even when woke from a power save. Most of our jobs are 1-2 pages.
The image overwrite has always been set to disabled. I just scanned a 3 page doc to my email, and it is 162 KB,
The file format is set to image only, not searchable.
Got anything else to try?
No way it should be doing that then.
in order of least amount of work and cost to most work and cost (assuming no contract with Xerox)
1. Update to latest firmware and hope. (No money, no data loss)
2. Erase Customer data and set up from scratch (No money, but time and data will be lost, all the data)
3. Altboot with no data backup the device (Every single thing would be lost, and a tech is required to altboot)
4. Return as defective to Xerox
For number 2, the option is Machine status > Tools > Device settings > General > Erase Customer Data
That feature does very similar to an Altboot, but not quite all of it
A layman answer to what an Altboot is would be a complete format of a PC and a fresh OS install done along with some firmware updates on the hardware (possibly) and a BIOS update (possibly)
