In case you have multiple network connections on your computer (physical connections, vpn, etc.) there is solution for "Device not found" or offline device in Network Scan Manager. The solution is changing the prority of your network adapters and put in top of the list your network adapter directly connected to the Xerox device. I don't know if there is such an option in Windows XP, but in Windows 7 exists and solves this annoying problem:
I install Network scan on next 3 computers and there work OK.
The problem is solved.
if your problem if narrowed to some PC's on your network and some other work, then I would look at those PC's config.
For test purpose, assuming your firewall is off and not active shields (anti-virus) are in use. Then I would look at enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP. Its a remote try but worth trying.
Let us know if you find your issue is isolated or solved.
I use Windows XP with SP3. Windows firewall is turn off.(SScanToIO and SysTrayUI module are in exception).
I install Xerox network scan on other PC with identical result, but today I install software on next PC XP with windows firewall enabled and Network scan on this computer work OK.
There is perhaps problem on our computers.
just for testing , can you maybe disable the windows firewall? Or maybe its the UAC in windows 7 thats is blocking? Or maybe you have another kind of firewall running?
I install all software for Xerok WorkCentre 3220 connected over network - IP. Printer print OK test page.
In application OpenOffice Writer I can scan page from printer.
I run Manager Network scan Xerox - Add device - Browse scaner - Result: device not found or when I add IP address - Result: Device not found.
