Re: WorkCentre 5225

Sorry, I didn't see this post. Ignore my other reply.

Your driver (PCL or PS) will not affect scan quality as both of those refer to print languages and have nothing to do with scan rendering on the xerox.

Tiffm refers to multiple page tiffs. The Tiff format supports multiple page documents similar to pdf's.

If you are not getting the lines when scanning from the glass, then your strip of glass where the scanner rests during document feeder scans is dirty. You may not even be able to see the specks, but they are blocking the light from the scanner when scanning from the document feeder. Just keep cleaning it until the lines go away.

As far as scan quality, you may or may not have additional format options depending on your model.  PLay around with all the settings available when scanning to see what works best.  The only other option would be to photoshop the scans afterward.  These scanners are built more for speed than quality so you probably will never get as good quality as you will with a flatbed scanner.

Re: WorkCentre 5225

Thank you Bits  Yes, MS networking is enabled and the printer is in a workgroup called 'WORKGROUP'.  The only Domain Name Servers I am aware of are the ones sitting on the internet that my provider has given me.  If I use the router as a DNS, will it actually convert ip addresses to names like a real DNS does?  I didn't know that was possible.  I don't have a DNS address configured on the printer by I will do that and let you know.  Thanks for hanging with me on this one.  I was able to get network scanning running.  I had a 'hard' time figuring out what share the printer wanted as opposed to the path in the share.  ALSO, when it asked for a username/password, the one I log into my Vista machine was always rejected by the printer but it is the combination I use.  Then I thought it might be asking for a username/password on the 5225 and I think that is what it was wanting.  Since this is a B&W printer, I am a bit disappointed by the renderings that the PCL driver produces after the scans.  I have the preferences set to high 600 etc. and every other thing I can think of to increase the quality of the scans.  They seem not to be as defined as the original and a tad washed out.  It tried the postscript driver but it gave me extra pages saying something about stack errors...pull my hair out...This is not an A model so it will only generate TIFF images.  There is a TIFFm choice but I don't know what that is. Any suggestions as to how to make the scanned image look closer to the original?  When I use the sheet feeder to scan...I get a couple of nasty verticle lines.  What is causing this?  I have cleaned it about as good as I can...anything to look for?

Thanks Ron

Re: WorkCentre 5225

The SMB is just for transfering the actual data not for finding  the computers on the network that have the scan driver installed.

Did anything change in your network?  I would look at the DNS.  Do you have a local DNS configured at the Xerox?  In a small network I would use the router ip address as the DNS.  You could turn on Microsoft Networking on the Xerox, put the machine in the WORKGROUP workgroup and see if you can see it from your PC.

Re: WorkCentre 5225

Fabio,

I am using the driver disc from Xerox that came with the printer.  After that, I went to the Xerox website and upgraded the drivers as mine had updates.  Then, I added the PS drivers onto my PC.  I'm not sure when the printer stopped seeing the network.  Either the printer has gone deaf or it is ignoring what's on the network.  My PC can see the other PC just fine in a workgroup called 'Workgroup' so I know that NetBios is working.  I'm stumped!

Re: WorkCentre 5225

is it the nuance software you use? maybe you can try to reinstall the software on another client and see what happens, that way you know if is a xerox of pc related issue?

Re: WorkCentre 5225

Thank you Bits.  I believe the printer 'has' to use SMB in order to see the workgroup heirarchy before it looks at any particular PC.  It used to see the workgroup called 'WORKGROUP' that I have set and from there I could search out a particular PC.  Now when Ihit browse it says 'connecting' the errors out saying Communications Error-Network Connection Failed.  So I believe there has to be something misconfigured on the printer that is keeping it from seeing the network names that are out there.  NetBios is enabled and I have that port enabled on my McAfee firewall.  Taking it down didn't help.  Any ideas will be appreciate.

Thanks Again

Re: WorkCentre 5225

Scan to PC doesnt use SMB - it uses the scan driver/app installed on the local pc.

Did you install a new security suite or firewall program such as Norton 360?  Those type programs can stop the scan app protocol from sending out over the network.

Turn off your firewall and give it a try.

WorkCentre 5225

Product Name: WorkCentre 5225/5230
When I try and 'Browse' under Scan to PC, my 5225 used to see the workgroup etc. and I could see my PC and pick a folder to scan to. Out of the Blue it stopped seeing the workgroup and now says 'network connection failed'. This printer is on a small home network with 2 PC's running MS Vista. It has and IP address and I can print to it just fine everytime. SMB is enabled as are every other port. Why can't this printer see the network like it used to? I have successfully used the scan to PC many times but now it fails to connect to the network but I can ping it just fine. Many thanks, Ron
