If you don't use those options you could also remove the icons in tools mode or from centreware.

thats normal behaviuour, those buttons stay grayed out until you configure them

for example for email: you need to setup an smtp server

WorkCentre 6655 New Machine, several main control panel icons are greyed out.

The Email, Fax, Scan to, and Internet Fax are greyed out, not active.

Tech Support had us login as admin and go to Image Overwright Security and run a Disk Overwright Now.

No changes in the main control panel icons.

Any Idea's. 6655 is new out of the box this week.
