Xerox doesn't provide email, you do.
Everything inside of the SMTP settings is up to you to provide. Just like you can't send an email if you don't have an email address, neither can anyone or anything else.
You can just create one, Gmail, Office365 etc.
In general, the big 2's settings are
smtp.gmail.com port 587 with STARTTLS
smtp.office365.com port 587 with STARTTLS
Note that picking STARTTLS (If Available) is never going to be the right choice.
Make sure the device time is correct to within 3 minutes of actual. And for email, the printer needs access to the internet, so your DNS must be set up, as does a proxy if the LAN requires it. We can't provide that information for you either.
You may also need to update your printers firmware.
Thank you so far. I am still stuck. When I go to the SMTP page, ti asks me for the device email address. I didn't know the printer had an email address. How do I find that?
Workflow scanning is to a PC via SMB or FTP, it uses these.
Scan To goes specifically to things created in the Address Book as Scan To locations (1), nothing else.
Email addresses created in the Address book (2)
are used only in Email , which only works after you setup the printers email account and SMTP server information
My machine is a workcentre 7970i and not 7855
I recently bought a WorkCentre 7970i and I love the machine. My main problem is that I am not able to "Scan To" on the maching. I can only do "Workflow Scanning". The addresses are in the address book but the Scan To does not recognize any addresses. HELP!!
