Re: XC1255 shadow image

I realize that I'm not like most clients of your product, but it would be nice if Xerox gave this repair as an option for DIYers. It could be "Do at your own risk" or something like that so as to absolve Xerox of any liability if things don't go well. To my way of thinking...the small cost of the repair was worth the gamble. If it worked GREAT. If it didn't, then I'm not out very much money and was worth trying. Just saying...

Re: XC1255 shadow image

Hey!

Most customers do not want to fiddle around with the machine like this, thats why the easiest solution often is the one suggested to the customer.

Xerox do not assume that you are willing to change small parts, thats something you have to decide by yourself.

Glad it worked out for you though :)

Thanks!

Re: XC1255 shadow image

Rui: It's fixed! I bought the cleaning blade online for my model. Installed it tonight and my Xerox is making great copies again. I have to say that it is disappointing that for the most part, that Xerox (as I guess most companies) said that the Drum unit (over $200) was bad and needed replacing when all it was was a $12 part in the drum unit that gone bad. It was fairly easily replaced. I realize you can't diagnose completely from afar, but I would have hoped that the online self help would have suggested alternative things to look at first before replacing the entire drum unit. At that price, I was about to just junk the copier and buy a new one. Now I not only have save hundreds of dollars, but have kept this copier out of a land fill...and that's a really good thing. Hope others who have this same issue consider looking into this fix first. It's a small price gamble with huge potential rewards.

Re: XC1255 shadow image

Hi,

Sorry the delay but I was trying to get more information from this model. From where I'm, this model is not exist so is difficult to get more info. Anyway it's look like other similar where the blade is glued inside the DRUM. I can not confirm this.

You have nothing to lose so you can try to open it.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Regards

Rui

Re: XC1255 shadow image

Since the drum looks to be in great shape and there is only 8,000 copies on it to this point (no warning light). It appears that it is the cleaning blade that may be maladjusted or bad. Aren't there replacements for just this part? I've seen repair kits online. Considering that a new drum is well over $200 (if you can find it) it doesn't seem to make sense to spend that much when I can buy a new copier for about the same price. Can the blade be repaired or replaced and if so, do you have online instructions on how to do that? Thanks

Re: XC1255 shadow image

Like Kimzy said, cleaning is not good idea. Besides, you are always seeing the ghost from last copy. Could be the discharge system that is not doing its work like Kimzy said.

The only way is buying a new DRUM. Sorry about that.

Re: XC1255 shadow image

Hey!

No, the protective area on the drum is very sensitive, cleaning it is never recommended.

Changing the drum is what I would do.

Thanks!

Re: XC1255 shadow image

Rui: I did the test and it definitely is the the Drum Cartridge since I can see the ghosting of the image before it passes through the fuser. As a mater of fact, I can rub the ghost image and it will smear while the copy is permanent. When I stopped the copying process during the feeding of the paper, I looked at the drum and could see part of the image on the drum itself. I took the Drum Cartridge out and looked at it. It seems to be in great shape. No dings or worn areas that I can see. Is it just a matter of cleaning the drum with rubbing alcohol or something like that to clean it?
