Thanks for the suggestion had checked the workgroup settings e.t.c ,but hadn't checked the firewall for some reason (perhaps as the scanner had previously been working and I wouldn't expect the end users to tamper with the firewall) and it was indeed causing the issues!

The error you are reporting is it on the machine or on the computer?
One of my locations has a Xerox 3220 set up as a network scanner, and is having some real issues. When they select network scan and enter the pin the machine just hangs on 'Connecting', back at the Network Scan software the device is shown as busy. Now i've uninstalled the whole thing, reinstalled it, removed device, added device, switched everything in the world off and on again and it still has the same issue. Ideas anyone? I've had this problem in other locations with the 3220 and a quick remove and re-add used to work every time.
