In case it helps anyone, my problem was that the LAN (Ethernet) was set as the preferred network, but I wasn't using Ethernet. My machine is only connected via WiFi. So, once I set the WiFI as my preferred network everything worked just fine. I'm not sure why the Xerox 6515 keeps the LAN port active when there is no cable inserted.

Hi Joe I have same problem , scan to email not working.
I have a router with a linksys mesh system attached and the 6515 connected to the linksys wireless only.
the ip address of the printer is 10.95.1.75 , the ip address of the linksys system appears to be 192.168.1.171 but the actual router gateway is 192.168.1.1.
in the wifi bit what should the DNS settings be?
at the moment wifi printing by mopiria etc. all works fine. Any help would be appreciated.
Your port is wrong, use 587
Encryption is wrong, use STARTTLS (not the "if available " one)
Make sure the time is within 3 minutes, make sure Less secure apps is enabled.
Then go into Wifi and select the Common line
And change IP Mode from Dual Stack to IPv4 and save it
For anything you more you would need to do a Wireshark trace, those settings work just fine on the latest firmware
your solution doesn't work for my Workcentre 6515DNI, I still get the DNS server un-sets up in SMTP Error.
You find the Xerox configuration in the screendumps (1. WLAN, 2. SMTP, 3. DNS).
The printers Ip is static and assigned to xerox.local in my hosts file.
Do I need to make any changes in my FritzBox?
Yes, the issue is DNS and yes it is in the Connectivity section.
Make the Primary DNS match your router / gateway.
Make the secondary be something external, like 22.214.171.124
Please note Ive also enabled 'Less Secure Apps' on Google.
