Re: Xerox MFPS and SMB scan to Windows Home Premium

Jump to solution

Hi!

The latest firmware does come with fixes for smb scanning, I don't know if you wanna try it out?

But if you do remember to print a config report etc, cause you might lose some data.

The current version is : 201407180658

Best Regards

Hi!

I've checked both network sharing options and they're active.

Firmware versione is the one attached!

Thank you

Hi again!

Could it be the network sharing settings on the PC?

Go to Network and Sharing Center -> Advanced sharing settings and check that the "Turn on file and printer sharing" is active, also check the encryption again (at the bottom) is "Enable file sharing for devices that use 40 or 56-bit encryption" enabled?

What firmware do you use on the printer?

Best Regards

I'm sorry....:smileysad:

I have to write again because unfortunately and unexplainably even if the LmCompatibilityLevel is set on 1 or 2 it suddendly stopped working so I'm not able anymore to scan to smb even if I was able to do that before.... I have also tried to disable the 128bit option but still no luck! The only changed thing since it worked is that Windows installed some updates...!

Any further ideas?

Thank you

Hi again, Karina!

Sry for writing the wrong name in my first reply.

Glad it worked :), you can read about the differences HERE.

The ones that's more secure is unfortunately the ones not working with the printer.

It's recommended not to have LM turned on though so I would still go with the value 2.

HI Kimzi!

Thank you for your reply. While I was waiting I've continued looking for an answer and so I discovered this guide before you answered:

FOR HOME EDITION
1 . Open registry editor ( Start search – regedit)
2 . Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
3. Create a new DWORD value with the following properties:
NAME: LmCompatibilityLevel
VALUE: 1
4. Restart your PC and try the connection again…

I've tried this and it worked! But know I see that you used a different DWORD... Which is better or more secure ?

Thank you

Karina

Re: Xerox MFPS and SMB scan to Windows Home Premium

Hi, Katarina!

Yes, this is a common problem on Home Premium, I suggest trying a registry tweak to change LmCompatibilityLevel.

1. Open up Regedit

2. Go to "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa"

3. Create a new 32-bit DWORD and name it lmcompatibilitylevel

4. In Data give it the number 2, which stands for: Clients use only NTLM authentication, and they use NTLMv2 session security if the server supports it. Domain controller accepts LM, NTLM, and NTLMv2 authentication.

Hope it helps, if not change it back to the default value (which is zero).

If you do not feel like editing the registry you can also try this:

1. Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools and open up Local Security Policy

2. Go to Local Policies -> Security Options
3. Lookup "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" and change it to "Send LM & NTLM responses"

4. Lookup "Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP" and disable "Require 128-bit encryption"

Best Regards

Kimzi

Xerox MFPS and SMB scan to Windows Home Premium

Jump to solution
Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Hi,

I've recently installed a WorkCentre 6605 and wanted to use SMB scan to a folder in C: of a Windows 7 Home Premium.

I've followed the usual procedure that I always use in order to enable SMB scan which has always functioned with any version of Windows 7 but noticed that with Home Premium, with same settings of a Win 7 Pro, the machine gives here error 031-528 and I cannot set scan to SMB shared on Home Premium... What I would like to know is that if this is a common and known issue related to Windows Home Premium edition and if there's a slolution to this.

Thank You

Karina
