Probably jumped a tooth on the circular gear inside.
Thanks for the info, Joe, the explanation certainly sounds reasonable. I'll have to search for a service manual and see if I can figure it out.
Not sure I understand your 2nd sentence. The machine isn't tied to a service contract if that's what you mean. I have Admin control, but am unable to manually set the correct paper size.
Usually it is a slipped gear/cable, and you would need a service manual to tear it down and start making changes to the setup.
Usually easier to place a service call and just hit Change Settings on-screen and set the right size manually until resolved.
I'm trying to fix an issue where the Bypass tray (Tray 5), doesn't correctly identify the paper inserted. If I load a ream of 8.5 x 11 card stock and attempt to make a copy from the Control Panel, the panel identifies the paper as an odd size - something like 8.9 x 10.3. And I can't manually adjust the paper dimensions up or down enough at the screen. The allowable adjustment limits were set pretty high in Admin mode for Tray 5, but don't remember the exact values. If I keep moving the guides and get them to read 8.5 x 11 on the Control panel, the actual guides are farther apart than 8.5". Anyone have any ideas on a fix? Thanks in advance.
