"Start is not available" 7845

I have numerous 7845s under my care and it is common to see this when using the top feeder. I can still put documents directly on the glass, but any attempt to use the feeder activates the message. I'm not certain if it clears itself in time but I always have to restart to clear it. Firmware is up to date. Does anyone have a cure and/or an explanation for this annoyance?

That was a known issue in fimrwares that end with 09100 and 14201 if it is happening on scans.

If that is the case just update to the latest firmware 073.xxx.xxx.24100

How did the firmware hold up against your problem. I've got a few

  • 7835's 072.010.165.14201
  • 7855's 072.040.165.14201

I'm getting that error "start cannot be accepted"

Should i be upgrading the firmware to fix?

Yes you should, be advised, the interfaces for email and workflow scan will change, and the update will ask you if you want to install the Xerox App gallery (think iTunes but for a printer, it will give you the ability to download apps, so you can scan direct to Office365,dropbox etc etc)

This is a new generation of firmware, so you run this file from your desktop (don't send it to the printer), it will patch and upgrade as needed so that you do not lose your settings, it will also repair the fact that your devices currently will fail if you attempt to Airprint.

Good god.... it takes its time to upgrade... near 2 hours!

 

Just doing one for the moment, Have approx 30 of these to do.

 

Apart from fixing the "start is not available" problem, What other fixes are in this upgrade would you know?

It takes time because you don't lose data, if you want a quick update you do an altboot, but then you have to set each machine up from scratch, you are trading fast update (where your job is to do nothing) with quick update (You spend an hour setting it back up from scratch, clone files can't be used from 072 to 073 releases)

 

As I already stated, it will fix Airprint/MOPRIA.

 

Some fixes for SMB with server 2008/2012/ Win 10.

Adds App gallery

Speeds up UI and EIP connections

Security updates

Better SHA-2 support.

 

But there are about 173 fixes(Some are all connectkey, some are not), I can't bother listing them all individually.

Hi

 

So One machine  done. 1st problem is when i try to log onto UI Diagonistic mode

I get an error "your login was succesful however your permission to this operation is restricted To obtain acces contact you System administrator.

 

Second problem, Can "when printing from usb" the colour/b&w tab is hidden behind the main user interface, and is set to auto colour, Is there a way to default this to B/W...... i know it wasnt an option on the previous version but it had the option to change on the main interface screen rather than now its hidden in a tab that has to be selected.

 

Havent seen the message about start cannot be accepted yet, but it is early days.

 

Can i say roll back to previous versions of firmware if needed?

 

Also. when the countdown timer went from 2 hours 20 minutes and counted down while upgrading when it got to 5 seconds, it returned to 2 hours 20 minutes....

It did in the middle of the upgrade print the software upgrade report success, but it never printed the new config page

You are never to be in Diagnostics mode, it is for Engineers and technicians, if you are one, you know where to get the updated directions.

Yes, but an altboot is needed and all settings will be lost going to an 072 version, you can simply update or downgrade within 073 versions without loss of data.

It is due to "Windows time", it's always estimated identical to a file transfer or whatever is currently happening in relation to current spped of it, if the speed decreases the time goes up, increases and it goes down, the faster the LAN speed the faster the upgrade.

Config sheet isn't needed since the only thing that changed is the version of firmware, and you get that on the upgrade page, waste of paper to print a config page, I believe it still would print it if you had left the option to print configuration on boot, but typically that is not enabled as it is just a waste of paper
