scan driver, Mac OS 10.4, Phaser 6115

I seem to be unable to use my Phaser 6115 MFP for scanning (via USB connection) from a Mac with OS 10.4.11 (based on Motorola rather than Intel processor). The driver installer that came on the product CD does not run. The driver installer available at http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-6115mfp/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=macosx does run, and it allows printing from the Mac, but not scanning: that is to say, the Xerox Phaser 6115 is not seen by "Image Capture" or "Preview".

The installer did successfully write files to /Library/Image Capture/Twain Data Sources/Xerox Phaser 6115.ds but this directory does not appear to the system as an application.

The Xerox driver download page suggests that this driver installer is appropriate for Mac OS 10.5 and lower, but since OS 10.5 ("Leopard") is quite different from OS 10.4 ("Tiger"), I wonder if I need to use an older driver with OS 10.4.11 in order to scan?

Re: scan driver, Mac OS 10.4, Phaser 6115

Hi martinandriener,

I am not sure why this is not working for you. the steps below have worked for me on a different product. You can try it. Worst case scenario you need to delete all and reinstall it.

If you do not feel confident with it search for dedicated support using Xerox support line.

This has not been test for your scenario.. If you have better tips go with it :P

1) Download the for OS X 10.4 or later.

2) Install the driver. Note that this will not add the printer.

3) Look for:

- the XeroxPhaser PPD in the /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/xx.LPROJ folder.

- the "rastertoprinter" file in /Library/Printers/Xerox/Filters.

- "ShiftfromBinding.plugin" and "Watermark.plugin" in /Library/Printers/Xerox/PDEs.

4) Right click (or CTRL+click) on them individually and check their permissions. If you see a "sys" account, delete it with the minus sign.

5) If you are running a 64-bit mac, open the XeroxPhaser PPD file with the text editor and remove the plugins indicated in the "image1.jpg" picture. They will not work anyway. You may need to save the file to the Desktop, and then drag it to the folder to overwrite it properly.

6) Check the permissions of the /Library/Printers/Xerox folder, and apply them to all the included files: system (read & Write); admin (Read Only); everyone (read only).

7) Finally, add the printer. If you are adding a USB printer, connect it beforehand.

scan driver, Mac OS 10.4, Phaser 6115

Hi Rui,

Thank you very much for your thoughtful response. I did follow your suggestions, but have not made progress scanning from Mac OS 10.4.

Perhaps I should re-summarize: Printing from Mac works fine; only scanning fails. We have heretofore done scanning via a Windows XP machine. We are unable to scan from either of two Macs---one running OS 10.4.11, the other running OS 10.4 (without the .11). We have un-installed the driver package and re-installed it. The only driver package that we have found that may be installed is that found on the afore-mentioned Xerox web page, said to be meant for Mac OS 10.5 and lower. The installer that came on CD with the machine will not run.

It happens that we do scanning with the Macs using an HP multifunction machine, so I have scrutinized the respective installed files for comparison. Whereas the HP .ds directory appears

My reply appears to have been truncated after "Whereas the HP .ds directory appears" A lot more info provided regarding paths, permissions, &c. but upshot is negative results.

Hi martinandriener,

I do not have a better anwser for you at this time. I also do not have a mac at my service that I could run a test.

If this is urgent and you fix solution I would recommend ringing support.

I might try to have access to a MAC later on. But would be intel based.
