Imposition for sewing machine

Jump to solution

For our meccanotecnica sewing machine we need a four page imposition template, that will be stitched together to a 24 page fold. This scheme will follow up the number of pages of the job.
Pages that does not fit to the last full 24 page fold, should be placed on a 16 page fold for example. The folds with less pages should be placed before the last full sheet.
For example: 1-24, 25-48, 49-64, 65-88

Are there any ideas for realizing this in FreeFlow?

I took a shot at it. I added a Route node has two paths:

  1.  a job containing more than 48 pages, which has the 1st 24 pages imposed (bottom of split). The remaining pages are sent back to the Route node
  2. a job containing less than 48
    1. the last 24 pages are imposed (bottom split)
    2. the remaining pages (need to delete the last 24 pages) are imposed using a different imposition

If you have the Split Component like David showed in his post, there is a possibility to do this splitting using only one component. Use Split and "split by Segments" with "Divide into fixed page segments". You define the largest number of pages for a segment and then how many pages you would like to have in the "smaller" segments. You can even change where the "smaller" signature should be placed. Unfortunately there is not an option that fits your requirement. That could be a good feature request.

You can place the small segments, at the front, back or in the center. You can also choose interleave and then you will get the smaller segments mixed in between the largest signature. The smallest comes first, so for a 84 page document with Split to 24 page per segment and 16, 8, 4 as the smaller segments – you will get this order: 24p, 4p, 24p, 8p, 24p.

I will try to find a way to change the order to have a 24 page signature last and the shorter ones before that. Maybe someone on the forum could help with a good way of doing this. I think the order of the signatures is will be challange using the workflow that David made as well.

Perfect, thank you for the solution, it seems to work as it should. The second step are now the needed marks on the template.

We need a simple bar just on the first sheet of each section.

And a text counter of the sheets of each section.

Sorry but I was too fast with my last reply.

The pages are segmented correctly. But they have to ordered within the section from the last to the first sheet.

So the row has to be:

Sheet 5 of Fold 1

Sheet 4 of Fold 1

Sheet 3 of Fold 1

Sheet 2 of Fold 1

Sheet 1 of Fold 1

Sheet 4 of Fold 2

Sheet 3 of Fold 2 etc.

The mark problem is solved already. The text counter is still an issue.

I found a solution for changing the row of the sheets.

After imposing of the sequences, an single page imposition was added.

In this imposition the page order is set to "Manual" and the sequence order is page -2 with increment 2 and page -1 with increment 2.
