Re: Imposition with overlapping bleed

That could work. Also, since you are tarfett No different pages you could do it all in a linear workflow. Either way it should be doable with the techniques mentioned above.

Let me know if you get stuck.

Re: Overlapping bleed

I think this will get me where I need to be but when I started working with it I realized that it's treating the document like they are one sided when they are actually two sided documents where i need both side repeating 6 times, However I think I could just set up a workflow where it doubles the job so we have two routes with the top one uses the odd resizing on all pages and the lower route uses the even resizes on all pages and then just merge them and set up the impose to be

Side A              Side B

1 1 1                 2 2 2

3 3 3                 4 4 4

As you have noticed there are a couple of problematic behaviors:

  • FFCore imposition will clip content at the gutter median
  • FFCore imposition (aside from the asymmetric imposition) assumes all pages in the layout are the same size

There are several options for getting around this. Since the bleed distances are consistent, I would suggest enabling the required layout by adjusting the PDF box sizes. You can do it using the following workflow

Note - the above will work for imposing documents of any width and heigh into layouts with 2 rows and n columns – as long as the required bleed distance is consistent. You can use this approach to build workflows for layouts with a different number of rows.

The first resize extends the trimbox to include the bleed content that we want to overlap into adjacent page cells.

The second resize reduces the trimbox of the other page by the same distance.

This will exclude the content that we want to mask with the bleed content from the other page.

The third resize is used to make the second page the same dimensions as the first page.

The resize distance should be double the resize distance used in the first two resize nodes.

After the boxes, the pages are imposed into a single column using the following settings

This will ensure the output PDF size will be based on the input document dimensions, rows and columns and gutters and margins.

The margin ensures bleed content is retained when using an Automatic press sheet size without Size Options.

After the column imposition, the imposed document trimbox is resized to bring it back to it's original position relative to the content. The resize distance should be double the distance used in the first two resize components.

The imposed columns are then imposed on the final press sheet size. I did not have final dimensions so I used the following settings (however, any imposition settings will work)

Yes everything is fixed about all sizes, the glue flap will always be the same ammount and the files are always the same width and hight with a .125" bleed all the way around. Whats the best way to get a pdf file to you I don't see a link to attach a file to my post.

Can you post a 1up file?

Also, is there a fixes distance for the glue flap?

Imposition with overlapping bleed

Jump to solution

Hi, I have an imposition where I need to have the bleed from the lower items bleen into the glue flap of the upper ones, is this possible using freeflow core? it's something we do rather frequently and we don't want to have to manually set these jobs up every time.

The image below shows how it would work. see how it overlaps the glue flaps on the upper items? there will never be any artwork on the upper ones that would have to show through.
