Re: Is This Wrong?

There is a best practices here....make all documents Duplex (using Insert to make multiple of 2)

Think of it as eliminating variables.

As an example for business cards (BC).  BCs can be portrait, landscape, simplex, duplex.

I help customers first to make all cards landscape (Rotate applied only to portrait cards, Left direction for front, Right direction for back).  ALWAYS.  No choices.  Variable is gone!

Make all BC to be duplex.  ALWAYS, no choices.  Variable is gone!

Some would say this adds a click for the simplex card.  True.  But the next step in optimizing the workflow is to gang up multiple cards on a sheet.  This is when it's very, very important to unify the layouts.

For a cutter/slitter, the typical layout is 3 cards in a 1x8 strip. Guilliotine cutter, 24 up, could have 24 jobs on a single sheet.

BTW, also have to account for bleed/no bleed.  If you impose to always have bleed (centered in the cell) this variable goes away.

Re: Is This Wrong?

Thanks David. Just wanted to make sure I was following "best practice" and wasn't missing something obvious to handle duplex and simplex layouts.

Re: Is This Wrong?

The imposition node does not have conditional logic. The Route node was designed to provide the conditional logic for the decision you want made on the job's processing.

Re: Is This Wrong?

Hi Stefan, thanks for your help! We do need the imposition, but the only difference in the two impositions is the sides imaged setting either being one side or two sides. I'm wondering if there's a way to deal with that without having to have two seperate imposition paths.

Re: Is This Wrong?

If the imposition does nothing but setting the job to duplex or simplex, then try this:

Remove the Route and the Impositions from the workflow.

Add two Printer Destinations. On that uses "2 Sided" as default (Define Job Ticket Defaults) and one that uses "1 Sided" as default.

Replace the Print Preset in the workflow with a new one. In Printer Selection select "Send Jobs to Printer Destinations based on Job Characteristics". Then create a new Job Characteristic that checks if the number of pages is a multiple of 2.

Then print all jobs using this Job Characteristic to the Printer Destination with "2 sided" as default and all other jobs to the Printer Destination with "1 sided" as default.

About your second question I will check why you are not able to add images to your posts.

Is This Wrong?

Hi everyone. Tell me if I'm doing something wrong here. I want a single workflow that does simplex or duplex based on whether the document has even or odd number of pages. Even pages in doc routes to the duplex impose component that has sides imaged set to "two sided."

I feel like there should be a better way and I shouldn't have to maintain two versions of the impose component just for simplex versus duplex. We submit via hotfolder and do not use job tickets.

Am I doing something wrong or is this the correct approach?

Also, I can't figure out how to directly add images to posts...is this something only moderators can do or is it staring me in the face?
