This should be possible, if I understand the desired results correctly.
In the primary stage you do your signature imposition with sheets set to 2, and then you add a secondary stage in the node, where you can do the 2-up imposition (in this case you can use sequential as we only talk about 2 signatures per sheet). You can also rotate the second signature in the imposition node, in case you need to fold the sheet before cutting.
