Here is an example of a workflow I am working on and I am stuck and need help.
What I am trying to do is split the items into size by finishing paper size, and then be able to split them into collated and uncollated based on the quanity entered. And they need to be saddle stitched.
Is this possible?
The paper size we use is 8.5x11 and most of pamphlets before imposition are 5x8.
We also use 12x18 and before imposition they are 8.38x10.88.
So what I want to do is impose to saddle stitch size then split into finishing paper size, then split into collated and uncollated based on the quanity entered.
Thanks
Scott
This should be possible.
I would start the workflow with a booklet imposition using automatic press sheet size. Select letter and 12 x 18 as the press sheet size options. Put a few jobs through that and make sure they are imposing as expected.
Then route by size and quantity into different printer destinations that collation set as expected.
You could route into multiple imposition templates (per your screenshot) but you can simplify the workflow by using a single imposition template.
If you have trouble with the routing rules post screenshots of the settings.
How do you select two different press sheet size options?
Nevermind I figured it out.
When I set it up as automatic the smaller pamphlets get set up as 3up 12x18 and not put onto 8.5x11.
What am I missing?
I have set up a workflow for 2up items, 8.5x11 and 12x18, with covers or slip sheets inserted. The folder works but my issue is that if I submit more than one item at a time only one will impose correctly, but if I do them seperately then each one works.
Why?
Here is the workflow:
One more problem I found with this workflow that I cannot get around is that if I submit the same book, but one in French and one in German for example, they get combined into one file.
Any ideas
How are you submitting the books? If you submit multiple files as a "job group" they will be joined together. You should ensure thateach file is a separate job.
Files are submitted as job groups by doing the following:
- having multiple manifest rows use the same group key (and using the group key field)
- submitting a JDF that references multiple PDFs
- enabling the option to submit files as a job group in the submit job UI
- submitting a Zip file to a HF
If you do not do any of the above then each file should be submitted as a separate job
BTW> Let's get this squared up and then i'd like more details on the previous question.
So even though they are different files and different languages but will be imposed the same, I will have to submit them seperately?
You can submit them all at once BUT they should be submitted as separate jobs.
For JMF that means separate JMF signals for each PDF.
For manifest they means not using the group key or having different values for each manifest row
For HF just drop the PDFs into the HF and they will be picked up as separate jobs.
