Identifying jobs with Pantone spot colors that benefit from iGen5 Gamut Extension colorants
The Xerox iGen5 Press Gamut Extension Tool defines 5 levels of accuracy when matching Pantone spot colors. The preflight profiles in this workflow will check for Pantone spot colors that
- require CMYK+ printing to achieve an Accurate or Very Accurate match
- achieve an Accurate match with CMYK printing but require CMYK+ printing to achieve a Very Accurate match
If a job has Pantone spot colors that meet either criteria the preflight will flag a "warning" for the job. The preflight status is then used to sort the jobs. If the job does not set a "warning" status on the first preflight, the job is checked against the second and third colorants.
The workflow will check the jobs againt the Green, Orange and Blue colorants in that order. This sequence is based on the number of additional spot colors that can be Accurately or Very Accurately matched with each Gamut Extension colorant.
Creating the Preflight profiles
The first step in building the workflow is creating preflight profiles to evaluate the Pantone spot colors in the job. This is done by checking the name of the spot colors against the list of spot color that will meet the above-defined criteria for a given Gamut Extension colorant
Note: The preflight check looks for Pantone colors with the following convention PANTONE xxx C. To check other suffixes, copy the list from the preflight profile and replace the suffix. The new colors can be added to the end of the list.
The Preflight checks are set to generate a warning within the preflight profile
A preflight profile is created for each colorant.
Building the FreeFlow Core workflow
The workflow automatically sorts jobs by repeating the same Preflight, Route, Collect and Print operations 4 times.
The preflight component uses the preflight profile to evaluate the job.
After preflight, the Route component evaluates the Preflight Result variable to select an execution path in the workflow. If the preflight resulted in a warning (aka the job contains a Pantone spot color that requires CMYK+G printing) the job is routed to a Collect component for aggregation. Otherwise, the job is routed to preflight for the next Gamut Extension colorant
The Route component has the following rules

The Collect component will agregate jobs in a batch until the number of jobs has at least 3,000 impressions or until 3 hours have passed.
If Collect releases the jobs based on the impressions it will ensure that the number of impressions in the released jobs is less than 3,000. This guarantees that all jobs can fit into an empty stacker cart.
The rest of the workflow repeats the step above for CMYK+O and CMyK+B printing.
In the end the above workflow will automatically sort and agregate jobs based on whether they contain spot colors that would benefit from printing with Gamut Extension colorants.
