rgb to cmyk

What are the best settings to convert rgb to cmyk in the Manage Color Preset Node, convert colors area. I want to convert rgb to cmyk but there is no rgb to cmyk conversion in Core like there was in Process Manager. What is the work around.

Re: rgb to cmyk

It's been years since I last used FFProM so I do not recall what was available there.

As you stated, the Manage Color component has options to convert documents to CMYK. What options are you looking for that are not there?

Re: rgb to cmyk

Could you suggest a common good option in the Manage Color component for rgb to cmyk conversion?

Re: rgb to cmyk

Not sure I am qualified to answer that sort of question... However, I think that something along these lines would be ok in most cases.

This will convert everything except for vectors that use spot colors.

If the file has embedded ICC profiles or Output Intents those will be used. If that's not the case the the defaults above will be used.

Re: rgb to cmyk

As I understand it, the FreeFlow Core Manage Color Node will honor incoming objects tagged with color profiles. That being the case, one can choose to convert the RGB objects tagged with color profiles to an industry standard CMYK profile, such as GRACoL. For RGB objects that are not tagged with color profiles, one could make a huge assumption about commonly used RGB color profiles for capturing images and start with sRGB as your RGB Source Profile, and set that as the default in the Manage Color Node... again using GRACoL as the Destination Profile. By doing this, the RGB conversion will be to a common CMYK space. Then, at the output device, GRACoL should be chosen as the CMYK Source Profile along with the output devices' Destination Profile (preferably one specific to the device) to get accurate color rendition. I have attached an image of the Manage Color Node settings that reflect what I have described. Please Note: The drawback of converting the RGB objects to an industry standard CMYK colorspace is that you could have achieved better color by converting RGB objects directly to the output devices' color space, which could be larger than the industry standard you are targeting.
