Since I have no idea what is causing the update my answer can only be "If Xerox made it, remove and reinstall it"
Sorry for the late reply. I've now subscribed for emails when someone responds to my post.
The only Xerox software, other than drivers for the printer, is the Xerox Support Center. Is this the software you suggest I uninstall & reinstall?

Probably would be resolved by completely removing the software and reinstalling it.
But, Xerox doesn't control anything you get from Windows Update, and in this case it sounds like you have the update in a broken state so it just keeps trying.
You could possibly end it by going Start > Run > net stop wuauserv
Then delete the folder called SoftwareDistribution within c:/Windows
Then reboot and it will possibly be resolved.
In all honesty, if it was my PC, I'd just hide the update and be done with it.
I have a Color Cube 8570 printer. Almost every day I receive a Windows Update software update. It seems to be the same update: Xerox Printer Software Update Released August 2011 Published 3/6/2013.
Is this software update being installed as indicated by Windows Update or must I take some action to have it installed?
I'm running Windows Vista Business and the printer is networked to my computer.
