Re: Admin account no longer has admin priveleges

Jump to solution

Joe - I was able to get into the Xerox Admin account on the device and got everything fixed up.  I found the quirk of our accounts, as well - we have an "Admin" account on AD, and the Xerox Admin account is "admin."  Everything is working as expected now.

Thanks for your patience!

If you can be an admin at the machine you can shut off authentication while you are there, then access the webpage and login with the local machines admin account.

Beyond that, with no idea what you have done , where the accounts are coming from or how they are tied to admin rights on the machine (If you have domain admins that does not make them machine admins)

By default the username is admin and the passcode is 1111. If you can get in as an admin in any method, either CWIS or local, disable authentication and start from scratch, checking all along the way to find where you lose admin access.

I just tried the admin account at the copier itself, and it works fine, but I believe that's authenticating through AD, whereas the web login is authenticating with the machine itself.  When I login at the machine with the Admin account there are no additional options available, though again, I'm not sure if that's tied to the fact that the authentication is happening through AD and not the Xerox, or if it's related to the printer's authentication not granting the account administration priveleges.

So does the admin account you are trying to use work when you are physically at the copier and not the webpage?

If so the browser would likely be the problem, if not the answer would be the same.

Tech wipes the machine not just to default the password, but to eliminate the corruption in the firmware.

As far as anyone is aware, we've always used the Admin login, and we never created any other administrative accounts.  The password is working fine - the problem is the Admin account, the only one we've ever used, is now showing we don't have administrative rights.  There are no other accounts used to access the web backend for our copiers.

If you don't have admin rights you can't make admin settings.

Passwords are very much admin settings.

If you got rid of a person who had admin access and now you can't login, I hope you separated on good terms and have their contact info.

Admin account no longer has admin priveleges

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Good morning all,

I am in the process of switching staff members who support our Xerox 7775.  I've previously been able to login to the web interface with the Admin account - we've switched the default passwords.  Today when I tried to login, I can't get to the Properties screen, and I'm shown the message "Only users with admin privileges can modify settings."  As far as I know, the Admin account should still have that access.

Is there a way to reset this account without resetting the rest of the machine settings?

Thanks!
