This is a follow-up post regarding the deployment of the WC 5955’s and using a 5855 Clone File (DLM):
The use of the WC 5855 Clone Files (DLM) was successful throughout the deployment of the 15 WC 5955’s. It was hit and miss (mostly miss) regarding the Fax Settings. A couple of 5955’s somehow accepted the Fax settings from the 5855 Clone, but, most did not. It would be best to input the Fax Service Settings after inputting the Network Setting into the WC 5955 in preparation for using the 5855 Clone File.
I hope this information is helpful for others that may have large (or small) deployments.
Sincerely,
Gerald
Might as well update the 59xx to the same revision as the 58xx. Grab it here.
UPDATE #2: - SUCCESSFULLY USED WC5855 CLONE (DLM) ON WC5955
Successfully Upgraded the WC 5855 to SPAR 73.190.086.15410 by using the "Automatioc Upgrade Method" located on the WC 5845-99SPAR Release Page (http://download.support.xerox.com/pub/docs/WC58XA/userdocs/any-os/en/WC5845-90_LandingPage.pdf). The link for the "Automatioc Upgrade Method" will download the Upgrade Instructions (PDF) and the "WorkCenter5845-5890-xxxx-xxxxxx xxxxxx.jar" file, The JAR file is the tool used for Upgrading the WC 5855 to the SPAR level 73.xxx.xxx.xxxxx.
Using the Automatic Upgrade Tool (Full Name: Xerox ConnectKey Technology Software Upgrade Utility) is straight forward. The accompanying PDF will step you through the process.
A couple of Tips for a Successful Upgrade:
1. On the WC 5855 under whe Web GUI (a.k.a. Centerware Internet Services) on the printer being upgraded, Drill to Properties --> Connectivity --> Setup --> "Force Traffic over Secure Connection (HTTPS)" change the radio button to "Yes". (This tip was suggested by our Xerox Resailer)
2. When using the Software Upgrade Tool, under the "Confirmation" section Uncheck the "Install These embeded apps as part of the software upgrade". In my case there are two reasions not for installing the software. One, we are exchanging the printers for new 5955's, and Two, no need to have the upgrade tak any longer than it has to.
The upgrade take at least TWO HOURS (if not longer).
After the successful upgrade of the WC5855 a clone file can be created and used (imported) to a WC5955 and all configuration settings (Fax Address Book, Network Address Book, WorkFlow Scanning, etc.) are restored/cloned over to the new printer.
The only item that was not "Enabled" was the Fax. Apparently there is some type of diffrence in the Fax Cards that kept it from enabling. After enabling the Fax at the printer (using the LED Screen at the WC 5955 Printer) the fax worked normally.
One more note:
Apparently the SPAR levels do not need to be exactly the same between the two printers so long as they are both at the 73.xxx.xxx.xxxxx level. The Firmware (SPAR) levels on the printers as follows:
WC5855 = 73.190.086.15410
WC5955 = 73.091.075.34540
I would like to tahnk the following for their guidence (eventhough it was a First fo them too):
David R. - Xerox Analyst from our Xerox Reseller
Al N. - Xerox Repair - Really helpful regarding the 5855 ins and outs
Xerox 2nd Tier Support - Who bravely took my call and encuraged me to give it a try (no one at 2nd tier has every tried it)
Has anyone tried to use a DLM file from a 5855 to transfer configuration settings to a 5955?
Currently running SPAR 72.190.165.14201 on the 5855’s. Not sure what the Firmware level will be when the 5955 printers are delivered.
Would like to prevent having to re-setup Workflow Scanning between 15 new 5955 printers and 100 users.
Thanks,
Gerald
Update: Did find a spreadsheet on Xerox.com that shows a matching Software/Firmware release for both the WC 5855 and 5955. But the level is quite a jump from what I am currently running (073.190.086.15410). Please see Screen Shot below:
Anyone running 073.091.089.15410 on a WC5855?
Thanks again,
Gerald
