Fiery X12 boot up issue

Hi,

We have a Fiery X12 connected to a DocuColor 12 (circa 2005 !). When powering up it stays at "Configuring HD controller..." and then goes to "Loading...". I have a screen attached and I see a "Boot Failure" message (see full message below).

I don't know how to fix this issue - do I need to re-install the OS on the server ? Is it Windows XP ? Is there Fiery software then to install ?

Would really appreciate some comments, suggestions, prayers etc !

Mark

Re: Fiery X12 boot up issue

The X12 is the bustled Fiery, it runs a custom Linux (With no GUI) with EFI Fiery software.

The XP12 is a Windows XP PC running the EFI Fiery software.

If you no longer have the original install disks you are probably out of luck.

Take a look here and here

Re: Fiery X12 boot up issue

Thanks Joe,

Followed the instructions, got to the restore option and got it back up and running. But...

Getting a "network controller error" - told I need to install a patch via the CWS. I think I have the right patch but I cannot get into NT to run CWS.

Do you know how I can get into NT ? Have a screen attached of course.

Any ideas ?

Thanks again,

Mark

Re: Fiery X12 boot up issue

CWS can be run on any PC, it doens't need to be done on the Fiery.

You need an old version, probably CWS4.

Re: Fiery X12 boot up issue

Thanks again Joe,

But I would still need to connect to the printer - other than the Fiery, the "youngest" PC I have is a Win 7 laptop. I have CWS on the NT if I can get into it.

See attached where I'm at...

Re: Fiery X12 boot up issue

That is just a Fiery that has no FACI kit, so you can't get to Windows.

FACI was EFI's way of making you pay to have a keyboard, monitor and mouse supported on a Fiery.

To set the IP address you need to use the buttons on the sides of the little LCD screen. No idea what menu's there are, it's been 10 years since I have seen one. But this is what the Xerox Support site states:

NOTE: Unless otherwise indicated, the function of the four buttons to the right of the Fiery Server LCD changes with the different menus. The function will be displayed to the left of the button, on the LCD. The Menu button location on the Fiery Server Control Panel varies by the model. The Menu button is either located under or to the left of the LCD. It is a small, round button in the middle of a group of three buttons. The up and down arrow buttons are located above and below, the Menu button.

  1. From the Fiery, press the [Menu] button. A Menu will be displayed with a list of options that correspond to buttons to the right of the LCD.
  2. Press the down arrow button below the LCD until ‘Run Setup’ is displayed.
  3. Press the button next to [Run Setup]. A 'Continue setup?’ message will be displayed.
  4. Press the up or down arrow button to select [Yes], then press the button next to [OK]. A ‘Running Setup’ message will be displayed for a few moments, then the Setup menu will be displayed.
  5. Insert password Fiery.1. To do this you must use top and bottom buttons to scroll though the list and and second button on the right to move to the next letter or number until you have spelled out "Fiery.1", and then press the button next to [OK].
  6. Press the button next to [Network Setup]. The Network Menu will be displayed.
  7. Press the button next to [Protocol Setup]. The Protocol Menu will be displayed.
  8. Press the button next to [TCP/IP Setup]. The TCP/IP Menu will be displayed.
  9. Press the button next to [Ethernet Setup]. An 'Enable TCP/IP for Ethernet?’ message will be displayed.
  10. Press the up or down arrow button to select [Yes], then press the button next to [OK]. An 'Enable Auto TCP/IP Configuration?' message will be displayed.
  11. Press the up or down arrow button to select [No], then press the button next to [OK]. The IP Address screen will be displayed.
  12. Enter the IP Address. Press the up or down arrow button to increase or decrease the numbers. Use the buttons to the right of the LCD to advance to the next section of numbers.
  13. When you have finished, press the button next to [OK]. The Subnet Mask Address will be displayed.
  14. If necessary, modify the Subnet Mask Address. Press the button next to [Subnet Mask], then press the up or down arrow buttons to increase or decrease the numbers. Use the buttons to the right of the LCD to advance to the next section of numbers.
  15. When you have finished, press the button next to [OK]. A ‘Successfully Bound to Ethernet’ message will be displayed.
  16. Press the button next to [OK]. The Gateway Address screen will be displayed.
  17. If necessary, modify the Gateway Address. Press the button next to [Gateway Address], then press the up or down arrow buttons to increase or decrease the numbers. Use the buttons to the right of the LCD to advance to the next section of numbers.
  18. When you are finished, press the button next to [OK]. The TCP/IP Setup Menu will be displayed.
  19. Press the button next to [Exit TCP/IP Setup]. The Protocol Setup Menu will be displayed.
  20. Press the button next to [Exit Protocol Setup]. The Network Setup Menu will be displayed.
  21. Press the button next to [Exit Network Setup]. A 'Save Changes?’ message will be displayed.
  22. Press the up or down arrow button to select [Yes], then press the button next to [OK]. The Setup menu will be displayed.
  23. Press the button next to [Exit Setup]. The Fiery server will automatically reboot.
  24. When the Fiery has finished rebooting it will return to the 'Idle' state. Print a Configuration Page to confirm the settings have been modified.

NOTE: You will need to update the TCP/IP Address for your print drivers and any Fiery utility programs being used.

Re: Fiery X12 boot up issue

Hi Joe,

Followed these instructions before but now getting "network controller error". Looked at other forums and fix seems to be 1-56cts patch installed via CWS.

When I did a restore to fix the original problem I was breifely in the NT OS before it rebooted. See attached.

Not sure where to go next

Re: Fiery X12 boot up issue

Wow thats almost pre WWII

The bustled fiery was a dccs50.

Its good that you got it to go to idle. If its hooked up to the dc12 properly it should print a config sheet.

Re: Fiery X12 boot up issue

Yep but its all we have at the moment and orders building up...

Getting a "network controller error" on the DocColour 12. Told need to install 1-56ps patch.

Can ping the Fiery from a MAC and Win 7. Have CWS v5 install on the Win 7, imported the patch in CWS and tried to print but getting an error.

Don't know will I be able to do anything from the win 7 or where to go from here. Do I need a print driver add it as a printer on the Win 7.

Re: Fiery X12 boot up issue

OK, this is where I'm at now....

- restored Fiery X12
- "network controller error" on DocuColor 12
- installed CWS v5 on Win XP (XP mode on Win 7) and can connect to Fiery X12
- have 1-56cts patch to hopefully fix "network controller error"
- PS printer install using EX12 WinXp print driver
- sent PS file to printer (import into CWS and print) but have error - see below
- test page from PS printer not printing - see below

Am I wasting my time or can I get this working ? What am I'm missing ??
