Re: How to use the printer built-in fonts

Hi,

Thank you for your suggestion. It seems that the Xerox Font Management Utility is meant to upload softfonts to the printer.  But I want to use the fonts that are built-in, for example those on the "Postscript Font List" that can be printed by using the panel.

Since this is 2023, of course I *had* to ask ChatGPT and well, it suggested to install the Global Printer Driver and then enabling the fonts in Windows configuration. But I still can't see the fonts in Windows 10. The system needs the font-files though, to display them correctly.

Re: How to use the printer built-in fonts

Sorry, which article? I don't see any links.

Of course, programming my own complete word processor could be an option if I had the time and skills, but unfortunately, I don't. So I guess for regular users, the fonts are completely unusable (except for the few standard PS fonts for LaTeX-users).

So I would like to use some of the nice built-in printer fonts (say... "Eurostile Extended N° 2"). But how am I supposed to use them? They do not appear in font lists in software such as MS Write, MS Word, LaTeX, LibreOffice, ...

The closest I got is that there is a font metrics file for the default (obligated) postscript-fonts (called PSNFSS), for use with LaTeX, but this only defines 35 fonts out of the large font repository that my fancy Phaser 6510 has. And that doesn't solve the issue for all other software.

The fonts that are in printers can sometimes be useful and difficult to use in application program code. This article describes how to determine which printer-resident device fonts are available for use in a Win32 printer device context. The article also describes several problems that can happen when you try to use those printer fonts in application code.

How to use the printer built-in fonts

Product Name: Phaser 6510
Operating System: Not Specified
